I have a XDm 9mm and think it's the best 9mm in the price range. I have shot about 1,000 rounds through it and not one problem with it. The grip is perfect for me. I used the number 1 grip and it fits perfect. Having a 19 round mag is perfect living here in Arizona. As for a 40 caliber I use my Sig P229r. For home defense I use my XDm and for everyday carry I use my Sig.

My son uses the new XD 40 and shots better with it than his Glock at 15 yards.

I think Springfield Armory with the XDm is giving Sig Sauer a run for their money.   8)

*Pssst.... Glock has 33 round magazines available for 9mm ;)

I know, I've got one for my G26. Makes a great conversation piece ;)

have you ever used a 33 round mag in a glock?  They are useless.

My Glock 17 and a 33 rounder are what I have as my night stand gun setup. It also goes to the range everyonce in a while for some fun time (Well, back when ammo was cheap and available)>

I didn't like the mag's much on the XD. I thought the lips of them are to sharp. I cut my finger when I took a friends out to the range.

I am a Glock fan and buy mainly Glocks and a Glock Certified Armorer. But I must say, I really do like the Smith and Wesson M&P with it's trigger pull and change of backstraps. But needless to say, I sold it to buy another Glock because I would rather own a firearm that is proven and dependable. Glocks have never failed me and have been very disappointed with other choices. Plus the reset on the trigger of a Glock is one of the fastest of all handguns.  ;)

I thought he was asking for opinions about the XDm, not S&W or Glocks.   ;)

Also, there are a few differences between the XD and the XDm, those differences are all for the better.

I bought an XDm-9 a few months ago and absolutely love it.  I dedicated a few hundred dollars to researching this purchase renting most popular models in both .40 and 9mm.  For me nothing felt quite as good as the XDm and I was shooting a lot tighter groups with it as well.  It is my first handgun so a lot of factors contributed to me getting the XDm-9 over the XDm-40; large magazine capacity (19+1 is amazing), 9mm rounds are a little cheaper than .40 rounds and most of my buddies have 9mms.

Unfortunately I didn't do a whole lot of research into the aftermarket or ballistics.  Had I done that I would have bought the XDm-40 instead.  The .40 S&W round has better stopping power than the 9mm, and there are conversion kits available for the XDm-40 to convert to both .357 sig and 9mm.  That means for about $150 (plus extra mags) you could have three guns in one.

That being said, I still really love my XDm-9, but I would love to trade it for an XDm-40 if anyone is interested.  It has only a few hundred rounds through it and is in "as new" condition.

It is a compare and contrast of 9mm vs .40

IMO, all the positives that you point out about the 9mm gives it the win over the .40 and its minute increase in performance...... If 9mm is not enough for ya, go all the way up to .45

I love the "m"s safety features including the sear disconnect built into the takedown lever. I would love to purchase one as it is a perfect fit for my hand, however it's a bit hard on the wallet for a plastic fantastic. Perhaps knocking a c note off and offering it at the standard XD price  would assist in one being added to my collection.

Looked hard at the XD, but went with the M+P .40 for the ambi mag release, and grip. Shot the 9 and .40 XD's and its a fine pistol.

If it feels good to you, suits your application and intended use, it is a good one to have, no question.

XDs have ambi mag release.  I like using the middle finger on my strong hand to hit the mag release on my XDs.

"Stopping power", particularly from a pistol caliber is a myth.
