I have been talking to my mother over the past year about getting a hand gun for home defence. She asked many questions as far as type and caliber as well as ease of operation. Well I recieved a letter from her yesterday saying she had purchased a Ruger 22. I will begin with letting you all know she has had 9 major spinal operations the last one they removed three vertabre and made a titanium cage to support her head. She has endured a lot and has a lot of nerve damage so her arms and hands are a little on the weak side. In our talks I mentioned she should stay away from a Semi-Auto pistol as it will be difficult for her to manipulate the controls safely and effectively . I suggested the new Ruger LCR due to her limited abillity. 38 ammo comes in a wide variety of loads that are light shooting yet effective. Plus being a revolver no slide to rack just cock the hammer for single action or squeeze the trigger for double action simple.
She did at least sign up for lessons which is good. At least she took my advice on that. Guess I will have to tell her to use those 60gr Sub Sonics by Aguilla. I am glad she finally purchased something but not the best choice. I will wait to see what she writes about it in the next letter. Either that or the next time I visit just give her one of my 38 revolvers.
