Its more bowhunting than gun hunting, eg a hand gunner first, hunter second, but if you've put in the hours and will wait for the right shot, why not. I've seen studies that show that even with the difference in sight plain you're not buying much between 4 5/8" as opposed to 6". and .44 mag is plenty for any deer. Though I like .454 casull using .45 colt in theory (no experience with this set up). I say practice and then go for it.
