Now we have to Boycott Pepsi!
« on: October 14, 2009, 11:15:17 AM »
A friend sent me this in an email, and included the letter that he sent to Pepsi. Mind you he worked for Pepsi for about 6 years. Also included are links. It makes me sick that a company as large as Pepsi would stoop to such levels of depravity. Especially in a time when young men need to be reminded that women ARE NOT OBJECTS!

Dear Friends,

As a former Pepsi man, it saddens me to hear the latest stunt my old company has pulled.  But having any morals at all forces me to draw the line with what I will put up with from a company.  Please read the news excerpts below to see what the Amp Energy drink division of PepsiCo just did.  Amp & PepsiCo have both half-apologized, yet refuse to pull the iphone app down....thus their insincere apology is nothing more than a way to stir up even more publicity for their product!  (This time at the expense of women everywhere as they actually encourage boys to post their sexual conquests online...including the girl's name, date, and comments about the score!)  Enough is enough....sadly I feel compelled to encourage you to boycott all Pepsi products as well as using the links I provided below to contact Amp & Pepsi directly and let them know exactly how you feel about their new iphone app called "Amp up before you Score".  Lastly, pass this on to everyone you know and encourage them to do the same...let's show Pepsi what we think of their tactics!

from Foxnews.com:

"Energy drinks are meant to be edgy and cool, and drunk by young men. So PepsiCo Inc. decided to release an Apple iPhone application for its Amp Energy drink to appeal to guys out on the prowl.

Now the snack and beverage giant is facing a storm of criticism for "Amp Up Before You Score."

The app, released last Friday, purports to help men pick up any one of 24 types of women, such as the "sorority girl," "cougar," "rebound girl" or "punk rock girl." Users can choose the type of woman they have their eye on, then get coached on facts that might be useful, such as computing a carbon footprint to impress "the treehugger."

Suggested pick-up lines can be risqué. To pick up "the artist," the app recommends the following line: "You know the Mona Lisa has no eyebrows. I wonder what else she shaves."

The app then takes the coaching a step further, encouraging users who "score" to post details such as name, date, and comments, for their pals via Facebook and Twitter.[...]"

Here is my letter I sent both Amp & PepsiCo:

As a former (long-term) Pepsi employee, and a die hard Pepsi (& Amp) consumer, it pains me to tell you that I will now boycott your entire product line completely because of the ridiculously distasteful & immoral iphone app "Amp up before you score".  I mean come on Pepsi!  What in THE HELL were you thinking letting this app ever even pass the idea board?  And now that you're catching a huge amount of flak for it....you still haven't even pulled the app?  That indicates your insincerity about your apology and that you've decided to put sleazy promotion tactics of your stupid product above the immoral objectification of women!  (And I am a young, single, guy...that is your EXACT target audience and even I'm incredibly offended by this sleazeball tactic!)  The fact that PepsiCo has not fired the entire iphone app and Amp marketing division tells me PepsiCo has lost all morals and thus I will no longer be a customer of yours.  In addition I will encourage the entire audience available to me from personal friends to the entire blogosphere to do the same.  Great job Amp!  With one little iphone app you will have cut your customer base in half by the time this storm blows over.....
I am a member of my nation's chosen soldiery.
God grant that I may not be found wanting,
that I will not fail this sacred trust.

Not much for me to boycott. I don't like most of what Pepsi makes. That's screwed up. Giving a list of pickup lines is an understandable joke, and could be good for a laugh from both people, but encouraging to post the names and details of the "Conquest" on the internet is horrible.

I bailed on Pepsi a while ago......even before the BHO-like emblem change.

I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

There is the real reason to boycott them.

I dont really think that this is a wise campaign for them not because it is edgy or controversial, but just because it does not fit their brand....... Now if Axe body spray would have done this it would have been a brilliant success

Isn't Pepsi largely owned by the Mormon Church?

I think this is more PC BS.
I don't drink pepsi because their product tastes like crap.
But I  may make a sacrifice and tip one to honor this pathetic gasp for attention.
This is "terrible exploitation" ?
But it was OK for Micheal Jackson to set himself on fire trying to draw young FEMALE customers.

If this is the most horrendous sh!t this guy can find to get upset about, I envy him.
