Debating where to train...

I am wanting to take a carbine based class similar to the 223 class at Gunsite. My question is since I live in Ohio and Gunsite is a bit of a drive are there any comparable classes in the Ohio Kentucky area? Or are there any other training centers with good reputations in the North east?

The only 1 near you I am aware of is James Yaeger's Tactical Response in Camden TN.

They have a number of rifle classes, nothing specifically listed as "carbine" though, at least not coming up. You can always ask.

Your experience with Tactical Response is going to be a lot different than what you will get from G-Site. Location shouldn't be your only determining factor. What do you want out of the training and what is your training experience? What type of rifle are you going to be training with?

Regardless of the answers, I  am sure that you can find a good source for training without leaving your time zone. Tactical Response is a great course, Ken Hackathorn is in your home state and both Indiana and Illinois are homes to good training as well.

My focus is not only becoming more proficient with my AR in terms of defensive use but also learning to be more effective with the rifle from 50-300m. Gunsite's course description nailed it right on the head...
"In your carbine class, you will learn the special characteristics of this nearly universal system. You’ll learn manipulation, continuity of fire, use of various sighting systems and flashlight techniques for low light conditions. You’ll learn to quickly acquire the best position for a good hit, and how to clear malfunctions. You’ll learn to get first round hits out to 300 yards, and will hone your new techniques in a variety of indoor and outdoor simulators, in full daylight and low light/no light environments. Your “223” class will give you the general skills to defend yourself or do your duty."[/font]

I just noticed that this class is also offered in Indiana but if there is something equally comprehensive in Ohio or PA that would be awesome as well.

If you are looking for shooting at extended ranges instead of just defensive shooting, the Gunsite approach might be right for you.

You might also see what US Training Center has to offer at the Illinois location.

I['ll be teaching in Ohio in a few weeks so I'll ask around also while I am there.

Does anyone have any experiance with TDI? My ccw instructor  years ago told me to check out their classes.I never hear anyone talk about them.
