Maxi Ball molds
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:26:38 AM »
My Dad is looking for a set of STEEL molds for .50 Caliber Maxi Balls. He tried the Aluminum ones from Lyman and they only lasted for about 3 dozen rounds before they got distorted. T/C was no help.
Any suggestions ?

Revised:

Keep an eye on ebay, and try different things for the description when searching.  You'll find something pretty soon.

I've never cast bullets, but when I was a kid, I was really into war games. My friends and I couldn't afford to buy as many soldiers as "needed" so my dad bought me a set of molds. Oddly enough these were made of very heavy rubber held toghther in a bench vice. They never wore out in many, many castings. I don't know what they were treated with to take the hot lead, but they worked like a charm. If they could get the details right n a small soldier they should be god enough for a bullet. Nowadays with silicone, you'd think they could do the same thing only better. just a thought.

Hell, man, I am a crotchety old fart, and I have at least 3 .223's around here somewhere. Let's see, 3 X .223 , , ,  wait a second while I get my glasses . . . Ok, that woks out to at least .669 which beats .50 so I win.

Get off my damn lawn while you're at it!!!!!!!
