Not sure what to think of this. I agree with the point that they are trying to get across but kind of let down that it was a publicity stunt.

This was in the original reports I read about it.  That was one of the reasons I thought the 'to do' was really strange.

 I don't see the problem. Letting a weather balloon go and then reporting that your kid is in it is a publicity stunt. Coordinating your protest with the local PD so you don't get arrested is more like CYA.
This doesn't strike me as being any different than getting a permit for a parade or march.   ???
