How so? I figure that a distance of ten feet or less, you have maybe two seconds to draw and fire. Obviously, one can maneuver backwards and sideways, but remember that the BG will have the iniative, you will be reacting. Under these circumstances, I don't see an opportunity to get off more than one or two shots. If I'm wrong, tell me why. Obviously, I prefer 11 rounds of 9mm to two of .357, but given concealability, if the Bond were DA, I would have a hard time faulting it.

True, but if you miss with the first two, the extra nine won't do much good if the BG is sticking a knife in your gut. I prefer a Glock to a Bond. I see a derringer as a backup, or a hot wether gun. Still, having looked at someone ten feet away, I realized how short a distance that was, and how fast things were likely to happen. Its why I waded into the swamp of .45 vs 9mm to think about which would be the better choice. (Research says, who the hell knows, stay with what you have). Regardless, if the guy had rushed me, I would have been doing well to clear leather and gotten one shot off at leg level and another torso level before we were wrestling for the gun. Maybe a third if I was having a good day. The thing is with SD, its all about the D. They have the initiave, you react in circumstances of their choosing. Awareness helps, but you are still not going to be in control of the situation most times, until you react. Then, you roll the dice. I prefer 11 to two, but I'm rather resigned to the fact that two might be all you get.

I'm not dismissing what you are saying......or even disagreeing to a point..... I'm just saying that the only way I'm limiting myself to using a BUG as a primary SD gun is if there are no other options.
I'd love to have a Bond....as a BUG.

And here we are in agreement. Hell, in the right (or wrong) kind of neighborhood, of which we have many in my neck of the woods, I'd carry my AR if I could get away with it. The only reason I like the Bond, beyond the obvious, is that you can carry it concealed no matter what you are wearing. A huge plus when its 90 degrees and 95% humidity outside. However, even if it was DA, it would never be my first choice.  The G26, with 11 rounds takes that category. I just think that at quick and dirty close range, we are kidding ourselves if we think we are going to solve the problem with the seventh shot. I think it will be over one way or another long before that.

My beef is that your maintaining that 2 shots is about all you will get is not bared out by facts, nor does it take into account multiple attackers as YOU experienced recently. People come to this forum for accurate info and what you are posting is NOT.
The Bond may be OK as a back up, however it is not the best, or even really a good choice, as an example, the Ruger LCP or Kel-Tec weigh less carry 3 times the ammo and cost 1/2 as much.
