Ruger 1911 coming soon??
« on: November 01, 2009, 07:22:34 PM »
In the new issue of "Backwoods Home" magazine (Nov./Dec.'09), Massad Ayoob writes, in his article entitled "The All American 1911 Pistol", that "Ruger is ready to introduce a low-priced, high quality 1911."

Does anyone have any info on this, as to a release date?

If Ruger puts out a 1911 with the right price point, I am THERE.

I do love Rugers!

It's news to me but it's what I was expecting when MB was building the suspense for their AR clone.

Ruger's been "pushing" the envelope on caliber and design variety. The LCR, LCP, SR556, the SR22,,...

Why Not a 1911?

I prefer their revolvers, and 10/22's, but they are a solid American manufacturer.

The more the better. But the price point needs to be right, especially in a 1911 market. Para's GI is just dandy and not the $1000 varieties that are out there as well.

If Ruger prices to high, IMHO, folks will go to a longer track record, Kimber, Springfield, Para, etc,..

Too low, and it could bite them as a "cheap" knock off like the Llama.

I think that knowledgeable folks know that Ruger>Llama (thought I did have a Llama .357 a few years back that was a good gun).

I'll ditch my Springfield in a heartbeat to get a Ruger 1911, if the price is right.

Never "ditch" a Springfield 1911, keep it and get the Ruger also.  ::)

The Springfield's have never had a recall on "new" designs of an old platform...

Just don't let the SR9 word get out,...or the LCP,...

Ruger finally jumps on the bandwagon. Big whoopee.

not something I would buy... Just like I would never buy a car the 1st few years of production...

anyways, if its less then $500 then it might sell.  If not, there are pelenty of other proven guns out there in the 500-1000 range.

I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

IMO,
Ruger would have to equal or beat the quality of a STI Spartan for it to be something really newsworthy. For $600 that pistol beats the tar out of 1911s at similar price points; a lot of quality for the money.

I think that Ruger would have to price a 1911 around $500 or $600 if they made one just because of their buyers.

If Ruger came out with one at a price at $400 or less, people would remember the LCP, the SR-9 and ask what's going to go wrong with it.  It has to be inferrior or else they'd price it higher.

If Ruger priced it at $700 or higher, people would say that Ruger was out of their mind and bring up Kimber and the like.

Personally, After hearing MB's talk about his friend's 1911, I'd go with a Rock Island Armory one myself.

Based on what they did with their 556, they might just buy parts and put them together, mark them with the Ruger logo and stick them in a box.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ruger firearms but there are so many decent players in that market it just doesn't make sense to retool to make parts when their focus has been on plastic for the last couple of years.
