Is there any truth too this?
« on: November 03, 2009, 02:12:30 PM »
I've always heard that the 50 bmg is just a scaled up 30.06.   Does anyone know if thats true or not?

I believe that is correct, I know that JMB designed the M2 .50 cal Machine gun by scaling up his .30 cal.

so does anyone have the diamentions for a 50 bmg?  my reloading manuels don't have info for the 50 bmg.   all szies should be about 1 2/3 bigger.

comparing the info in my manuel to that link, it appears to be almost true.  alot of diamnetions are almost exactly 2/3 larger  but things like case OAL and total OAL lenth are not close.

I've heard it was a scaled up .30-06. I've also heard it's a smaller verion of the .55 Boys anti-tank rifle round. And I heard it was a slightly different version of the German anti-tank rifle round. One of those is probably true.

If Manuel doesn't know, ask his little brother Giseppe!    ;D

Maybe you could look in the manual next time!
