Michael Steele: White Republicans 'Scared of Me'

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is stirring controversy once again with a video interview in which he said that some white Republicans are “scared” of him when he walks into a room.

Steele was responding to TV One’s Roland Martin, who said that “white Republicans have been scared of black folks,” Steele replied: “You’re absolutely right.”

“I’ve been in the room and they’ve been scared of me,” said Steele, the first African-American RNC chairman, Politico reported. “I’m like, ‘I’m on your side.’”

Steele said the party needs to focus on “education and the economy” to better reach black voters. He credited Governors-elect Chris Christie in New Jersey and Bob McDonnell in Virginia for running a message that could appeal to black voters.

“You saw in Christie and you saw in McDonnell a door open because they went in and engaged,” he said. “McDonnell was very deliberate about spending.”

McDonnell, who secured the endorsement of BET founder Sheila Johnson early in his run, used her as one of his top surrogates on the campaign trail, according to Politico. Both GOP candidates, however, lost the black vote by landslide margins according to exit polls.

“Sheila Johnson was on his team. I mean, that was a big deal,” Steele said. “He engaged her and she helped navigate him through that relationship.”

Once again a RINO has got it all wrong. I'm not scared of Steele because of the color of his skin, I could care less.

What does scare me is the path he has accepted as the RNC  "plan". Which is Democrat lite. I changed to an "I" on my voter card because the RNC dropped the ball and moderate values that are not what Conservatives based their foundation on.

I don't want part of a problem leading the RNC, I want a solution, and have yet to hear it from Steele. He's a player and a pawn for a game I as an American, choose not to play. They let ME down, and NOT ONE Incumbent will get my vote.

Not because Steele is black, it's because Steele is a non-committed RINO, in the breeze, Washington insider that has forgotten his Party for a "change" I can't believe in either.

Sorry for the rant, I just don't see the "leader" of a once great party as part of a solution.

If it helps TW, he doesn't scare white Democrats at all, unless the fear death by laughter from watching how many Republicans (including donors) he continues to turn off. They love him, and wish him a long term, possibly to be followed by Mel Martinez.

The only thing that scares me about Michael Steele is the direction in which he is "leading" the GOP.  Mostly he just pisses me off......much like most politicians.

I've often said, 98% of politicians give the rest of them a bad name.

Lets not confuse racism with truth. The GOP is full of hyporites on the race issue, with the major exception of W., of all of people. Rarely will you hear me sing the praises of the man but on race he deserves it. He really did look for talent, not skin color and his cabinet reflected this. Good for him. However, the party, that bastion of ruged individualism, and staunch opponent of affirmative action suddenly  decides afterThurogood Marshall retires that they are going to nominate their first black supreme court justice, purely by chance? And with Obama winning the nomination it was mere coincidence that they suddenly put a competant and unifying guy like Steele in charge f the party? No trace of affirmative action there, he was just the best man for the job. This sort of "hey guys, wait up, we have a negro too" approach is just pitiful. Who are they kidding? There are three choices.
 1) Do what the Democrats have done and seriously make blacks part of the party base. The GOP could do this on issues like school choice, a more creative approach to law and order, aid to small business and immigration "reform" that means lots f busses headed south. They don't. 
2) Do what W did and promote talent where you see it working with what you've got. Powell and Rice took a lot of heat but no one ever accused them of being affirmative action choices.
3) Don't bother pretending. Its a mostly white party, with Cubans and a lot of Asians. Everyone knows this. Putting a tool like Steele in charge just makes you look silly. You want Rush's magical negro? It ain't Obama, its Steele.

You realize, of course, that Limbaugh wasn't the first person to refer to President Poophead as "Barack The Magic Negro", do you not?  It was originally referenced by David Ehrenstein in an LA Times column published in March, 2007.

When I heard Rush play it he credited the "Barack the Magic Negro" song to Jesse Jackson who wanted to cut off Obama's nut's. Just goes to show that even a stopped clock (or shake down artist ) Can be right SOMETIMES.
 As to FQ's  comments, the reason the GOP is made up of Whites, Asians, and Hispanics is because those people are more likely to have ambition and a work ethic, there for they are going to favor conservative values of Small government and lower taxes. Through no fault of their own, but 70+ years of being fed "entitlement" propaganda and declining educational goals thanks to the Dems most blacks just vote "foe dey free shit".
Republicans are more likely than dems to promote on merit, that's why Bush HAD Rice and the Dem Powell, while BO has a bunch of tax cheats like Giethner , and communist sympathizers like Van Jones and Valerie Jarrett.
Have to agree with him on one thing though, Steele is an a$$hole, of the 4 possibilities for the position he was the only NON gun owner, There were better possibilities even among Black republicans.
