I know it's tough to send something back to the mothership for an issue. I had a squib in my Sig556 rifle that cracked the crown 2 months after I bought it. Squibs aren't warranty, but they charged me a $100 bucks for a new barrel, for a $1200 rifle. In essence, they cut me a major break as they are priced much higher.

S&W will do what it takes to make it right.  They know how tight competition is, and please let us know when it comes back and how it's been improved.

What I hope to see when the gun is returned is simple. Better operation of the mag catch when loading otherwise mag release is fine. And the slide lever(s) work more like what you see on Glock and what you see on the new M&Ps on the shelves now. That's it!!! But so far they have treated me extremely well.

I am not hijacking the thread but I have sent my Ruger MkIII target back to  Clark Custom Guns for the second time. I would not ever say anything bad about their service, but attitude was a bit ruff due to me shooting CCI Stingers and Velociters out of the gun. They told me that it is "common knowledge that you do not shoot hyper velocities out of pistols, especially with trigger jobs."

"Well", says I, "when did that become common knowledge and how does any standard factory pistol barrel in 22lr capable of breaking the 'hypervelocilies' level ?"

And after a long please hold, Jim came on the phone himself to answer,"the everyone knows cause the old boxes of CCI stingers said not to use in pistols. Okay then the problem with Hyper velocities comes from a different case all together than the standard and high velocity ammo."
I was set back by this due to the fact that I have been pushing it for almost a decade for anyone who is going to choose to carry a 22 for PD. I have not had a single complaint of dud from CCI Stingers or Velociters and told him so.
So he told me to use CCI mini mags and then hung up on me.
I was hitting redial and trying to calm myself.
Then put on hold and Curt go on the phone and told me to send it back and could not give me any idea on how much it was going to cost me. Write a letter and he was the one to place Attn: to.
So i called S&W and asked them about shooting 22lr though their guns, and their response was as long as the 22lr is of good quality shoot it. Paraphrased a bit.
So I sent out the Ruger and I will get in contact with them for their opinion on Hyper velocities. Let you know.

Don;t know about the Mark series pistols, but the Ruger 10/22 manual specifically states NOT to use CCI Stingers, as pressures exceed design spec.

Seems you got a Ruger rep. on a bad day.

My apologies. Seems even more disheartening that a custom shop would be that way for folks that invest in services that pride themselves in making a product better than factory.

I like the Smith and Wesson M&P. I owned one in 9mm but sold it off for another Glock. Glock 30SF in .45 ACP to be exact. The Smith and Wesson was really nice and smooth. I liked the additional weight to accomodate the recoil. If I were to own the Smith and Wesson M&P I would prefer one in 9mm or .45 ACP. More likely the latter.

My M&P 9 front sight sheared off at 499 rounds. I think they turned it around in 3 weeks more or less.
Magazine release failed not soon after. They sent me the parts 2nd day mail.

+1 you need another gun ;) Maybe two.

Like Guns-R-Us I go over the top and rack the slide every time. Same motion for clearing jams when you do TRB.

M&P never made the trusted gun status but I did just buy a M&P Pro for IDPA. (%$* gamer).

Have yet to encounter ANY issue with any ammo, of any kind, in my full size .40 M+P.  I posted a 500 rd "poor boys" test on mine, here on the DRTV archives. No cleaning, no nothing for 500 rds. with a variety of ammo.

It just simply works.

If a "few", out of tens of thousands,  come out not doing the same thing, S&W will stand by it and make it right.

Everytime I open my American Rifleman Mag, from the NRA, ANOTHER LEO agency has picked up the M+P...

No "kabooms" either...

I sent off one of the Mags that came with my M&P9c about 3 weeks ago cause it was causing some FTF, got a new one in the mail yesterday. I'll take it to the range on the 15th to see how it functions. I couldn't find anything particularly wrong with the last one but the gun functioned fine with all the other mags I've got. So it must have been the culprit. S&W didn't so much as blink at replacing it either. ;D And S&W does refer to the slide lever on an M&P on their web site nomenclature list as a Slide Stop not a Slide release.
