Michael, go, go, go to South Africa!

If you really get a chance to go hunt in South Africa on a real plains game hunt vs. a TV style hunt, go for it! Myself, a friend and his wife just got back from a trip with Russ Field Safaris (www.southafricanhunting.com) and Gnu Safaris (www.gnusafaris.co.za), near Hoopstad.  I managed to take all but my kudu with a handgun (either a .480 Ruger Super Redhawk or a .308 Encore). You will have a blast, even for someone such as yourself who's done a lot in your life. We can't wait to go back. Even though it was just a plains game hunt, the potential for a buffalo charge, or rhino charge, or stumbling onto a Cape cobra added to the adventure. It's sure something we won't ever forget!

Yeah, I hated those guys too, until now. ;D

Instead of paying the big bucks for an elk hunt domestically, we decided to go to South Africa for the same price plus get all the benefits of a nice lodge, good meals, laundry service, and an open bar. Not a bad deal. Since I *never* go anywhere for a vacation (not since a trip to South Padre while in college, many, many, many years ago) I felt like I deserved this trip. It was great. Now I just need to figure out how to finance a return trip.

Seriously, if anyone had a thought of doing a trip like this, stop "thinking" and do it. You'll never regret it.

Well I have looked at those pictures 3 times now.. and I am sooo ready to go on something like that! I could almost smell the dirt and heat and animal flesh.. Guess I will have to put that down on my wish list. Thanks so much for sharing. The picture slideshow was great.. nice clear pictures and really gave us the "feel " of being there.. and also.. I am signing up on the list of hating you .. LOL
