Christmas Cards For Wounded Soldiers

This was posted on FaceBook:  When doing your Christmas cards this year, take one card and send it to this address. Think of how many cards these wonderful people who have sacrificed so much would get. Please send to: A Recovering American Soldier c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center 6900 Georgia Avenue, NW Washington , D.C. 20307-5001.

I have since been informed that letters to "any soldier", etc., are not accepted by the post office due to security and privacy concerns.  Does anyone know if this applies to " a recovering American soldier".  I would like to get involved, as it seems like a good cause, if the cards aren't just going to be trashed.  Any help, as always, is greatly appreciated.

I checked out Walter Reed's website and it states, "People shouldn't send cards to Walter Reed unless they are addressed to a specific wounded warrior."  So, as Timothy posted, the Red Cross route is specifically mentioned on WR's site and seems like a better option.  Send your cards to:

I recieved this poem while I was training soldiers to go to Iraq. A Veteran is someone, who at one point, in her or her life wrote a blank check made payable to the "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" for an amount for, up to and including, his/her life.   

Christmas cards are always welcome when you are away from home. I get to spend this Christmas at home this time. It does not look so good next year.
