Why not the Mossberg 590? Marine issue for years, and its  built like a tank. For me the two things it has and the 870 doesn't are a set of excellent ghost ring sights if you want to throw a slug, and it has a top mounted safety. This is a bigger deal for me as a lefty, but besides that, it is still a lot quicker and more instinctive to move your thumb up than poke around on the trigger guard. You also have Gods own amount of extra barells and do-dads available, and its at a comparable price.

The do make a 870 with mounted sights and a sight rail, see Cabela's ad.  Also, the top mounted safety is stupid.  Why?  Because I said so.  Learn to be right handed like you're supposed to be!

Having both, I have no biased opinion.  The 870 just happens to be a perfect length of pull for me personally, it's lighter in weight, thus handles easier.  Remington camoflage coatings are light years better in quality than those Benelli uses, and yes, if you wanna crap it all up, there are hundreds more accesories.  Are you an AR guy and hooked on trinkets and gizmo's?  Then the Remington is the shoty for you hands down.

If I had the choice of only one.  NO QUESTION!  BENELLI!

Why?  Build quality!  Build quality!  Build quality!  NO comparison.  Even with the wingmaster.  Remington fit, finnish, engineering, material (other than for-mentioned camo coating that's done here in the USA) of the SuperNova BLOW AWAY an 870.  Pick a SuperNova up.  Cycle the action.  NO COMPARISON!  It's like comparing a fine hand crafted Ferrari to a Ford Pinto.  SuperNova has a chrome lined chamber and barrel.  The bolt locking mechanism has a dual rotating locking lug design.  There is a button on the bottom of the forearm that allows you to eject the shell in the chamber without loading another round from the magazine.  All surfaces are corrosion proof. YOU CAN LOAD IT WITHOUT IT TRYING TO CUT YOUR THUMB!  Many people claim "their 870 doesn't do this."  Give me a break.  Their all the same.  Fact is, by anyone's measure, the Benelli loads smoother.  Trigger pull is a much better 2 stage (not target grade by any means, but better).  QUALITY extractor claws.

I say just go pick up a SuperNova and an 870.  Tell me you don't laugh at the Remington!

I just put the rail on mine 2 days ago.  Still trying to find the right red dot, or scope.

If your not planning on shooting from a sitting position (mine's occasionally used for Turkey), I'd recommend against the pistol grip stock.  You need a socket set to field strip a Benelli with this stock (dumb).  The regular stock has additional measures for recoil reduction the pistol grip stock doesn't have as well.

In the competition shooting world, shotgun portions of the competition are generally reloading contests.  Whomever can reload faster is gonna win.  I'd recommend the Benelli.  It has a huge load gate area, almost twice as large as the 870.  It's much easier to reload faster and more efficiently with the Benelli.
