It would not surprise me to find out that trying to keep his basement dry was how Holland invented the submarine.

"A BASEMENT FULL OF WATER AND RISING!"  Had to call for help which I don't like to do.  Really not sure what the problem with the sump pump is but it took 2 to keep up.  I'm lucky to have someone to call!

Merry Friggen Christmas

That beats my leaking hot water heater on Sunday. Sorry to hear about that.

Florida---Where America goes to die.

Not exactly, we're just holding on to premise that this is STILL an American State. NOT a Central or South American Annex...

Plus it's 78 degrees at Christmas,... :P
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."

Thanks for asking.  No, nothing damaged but it is a problem no one seems to know how to fix.  Also when power goes out during a heavy rain the problem is worse.  Have a generator for power but I have to be home to start it.  The power didn't go out, the sump pump just couldn't handle that much water this time.

Exchange some PM's with TAB, we may think he's a dork on some subjects, but he DOES know his business.

Richard,

You may have to install a larger pump to handle the additional head pressure, especially if you're pumping the water UP before out.  As the pumps seals age and wear, their ability to handle added load in relation to the distance the fluid needs to be pumped is reduced.  Add the height to pump it out of the basement (if you have to) and it will really strain the pump.  Going bigger will always be better.

I had a pump installed many years ago when I lived on the old glacial lake bed of Lake Michigan - the water table was never more than 2 feet under the basement floor. 20 years later I upgraded the system with a marine battery backup system, and the guy who removed the pump said it was still good as new - stainless steel case and all - it was a sewage pump. 2" discharge, moved mas quantities of water, but was running nearly all the time in a rain, and could not handle the water through the floor in a heavy downpour - or when the power went out. Lost lots of stuff, went to the battery backup, the floor never got more than wet after that.
