That was NOT bagpipe music! (Show #140)
« on: December 29, 2009, 03:17:54 PM »
Sorry, Michael.  I appreciate the effort, but the opening music for show #140 was NOT bagpipe music.  Also, if you Google "Michael Hamilton" you will find that he is scamming people wrt bagpipe music and items.  His rendition of Little Drummer Boy was performed on a keyboard programmed to sound like bagpipes.

I played the pipes for four years and my son was in a bagpipe band during that time.  The chanter of the bagpipes only has nine notes, which spans one octave and not in any particular key.  It is almost impossible to play any type of music on the bagpipes except bagpipe music!  Amazing Grace is the most well known because it fits in the chanter's range.  Otherwise, you must substitute a note that is one octave higher or lower to get the correct sound, and it is obvious when you do that.

If you want really good bagpipe music look for CDs from the likes of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band (www.sfupb.com), Michael Grey, Jack Lee, Bruce Gandy, and Gordon Duncan.

Just FYI,  ;)
Dave

Reminds me of a funny t-shirt I saw once.  Unfortunately, I can't find a link to a picture of it, but you hit it on the head! ;)

What twisted lunatic ever invented that as a musical instrument any way.
Like the suppository, where did that inspiration come from ?

No I'm serious, there have been some seriously messed up people influencing our culture, here's another example, Lobster.
Hmmm, looks like some thing I killed in the garden only a lot bigger, Seems to be a scavenger that eats crap off the bottom of the ocean,,Lets eat it .  No thanks, you can have my share of the baked cockroaches to.

(Actually I love lobster, but they already new it wasn't a bug before I came along  ;D  )

Here in Texas is good old menudo, which I personally love, Southern haggis, with lots of chili's, pigs feet and hominy. Served with Pico di Gallo and Lemon wedges. Cures what ails you.
