So this morning I officially joined the Colt club. A new L.E. 6920, and a new L.E. 6940. First impressions are good. The guns came factory sealed with a lifetime full replacement warranty. (Can't beat Davidson's for that.), The price was the best I've seen in a while. I like getting guns in a factory sealed box. My local shop didn't open them, they waited for me to do that. That I appreciate. Over all first impressions are good. Guns unpacked smelling like a CLP factory. I like to see that, and it corresponds with the attitude today of, "run an AR-15 DRIPPING." These were. I like that fact. Oil was oozing from every pin and button.
The sights on the 6940 I really liked. White labeled out to 600 yards, and were the pop up variety. I'm not too crazy about the oblong front grip on the 6920. I like the fully round grip provided on the Bushmaster M-4 models better. They simply fit my large hands better. The guns were packaged beautifully, wrapped in a type of anti rust, heavy gauge plastic. The cardboard boxes fit very securely, and were taped shut from the factory with Colt "Prancing Pony" blue tape. The 6940 came with a very large Law Enforcement type manual. The 6920 with the smaller civilian packet type manual that is the same size Bushmaster and Rock River Arms supplies. Both rifles included 2 well scuffed 20 round magazines.
On the negative side, I really don't have too many complaints thus far. The guns were shipped immaculately, both arriving without a scratch or rub mark. Lets face it for $3,000.00+ out the door they damn well should. They certainly could have done better than 2, scuffed up 20 round, G.I. mags for what they charge. A couple of nice black 30 round Mag-Pul P-Mags for the price would have been nice. Colt needs to get with the times. Again, especially for what they charge. And while I'm on the subject, a $1,200.00 + gun in a cardboard box? Bushmaster, Rock River Arms, DPMS, and all the so called "lesser brands" include a really nice hard case.
Colt should as well. They need to wake up!
Overall I like the weapons, and they exhibit a good degree of fit and finish. As always the proof is in the shooting. That will come tomorrow. Melanie and I are heading out early because we've got a lot of new guns to light up from these Christmas holidays. A new Sig and Beretta 9 MM, as well as a new Rock River Arms 9 MM LAR-9 Carbine, and these 2 new Colts. Plenty of ammo will be required! I'll report back if anything gives us any grief. It's looking good so far. Bill T.
