Season 2: Episode 3: He's Not Alone!
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:58:10 PM »
An intruder has entered your house.  You’ve planned for this situation and are prepared to react—until you realize he’s not alone. Incidents involving multiple assailants in home invasions are more common now than ever before and conventional home-defense tactics may not be enough to keep you safe. Find out what you can do to harden your home and adapt your tactics to cope with this terrifying threat.

Looking forward to discussion after the show airs!

Bravo, this was one of the best episodes yet!

There were two points of interest:

I understand the idea behind retreating when it is possible, but I can't help but think that if there were two inside how many could be outside? Pa currently has a "must retreat" clause and I totally disagree with it. If you have adaquate cover/concealment and a good supply of ammo and back up firearms why would one choose to leave?

Secondly the book case segment was awesome. Kinda makes you think about rearranging your furniture to help minimize over penatration.

Great show guys.

I have to admit I haven't really thought about a second assailant coming from a different direction while in my own home. After all, my home is my castle and presumably safe. How could 2 people possibly get in from different areas? (sarcasm alert)

MB's spot on a good carry gun was spot on. We've said for a long time that the slide was the easyest part to conceal but the manufactures don't seem to pay attention.

Interesting results with the books. Good to know. Of course I don't need cover due to the fact that I am naturally "ballistically enhanced".

Do bad guys always wear tye dye? Something to look for when out on the street. ALWAYS avoid the guys in tye dye or at least shoot them first.  ;D

Look forward to next week.

Hi Rob!

Another great show... scary, but educational. To tie this show in with the last one, have you tried what you did with the books and bookcase with hollow core doors and a solid core door (to your safe room). My wife is not about to let me test the doors in our house, but I was wondering if you had tested doors?

Along with that idea, you mentioned that the hollow point ammo (9mm and 40) clogged up going through the bookcase, and that got me to thinking about ammo choices. Doesn't the TAP ammo have the cavity filled already? Would that work any better?

Questions and more questions... thanks for the stimulation.

Hornady's Critical Defense rounds have the filled cavity hollow points. The standard TAP FPD is a more traditional hollow point. I use to carry TAP exclusively in my M&P and 1911 now I pretty much only carry GoldDots in my .40

Yes, keep your doors locked. But if the kids are in the back yard playing to you lock the back door?

The show was great, and it made you think about more than one threat.

I was interested in the book case ballistics test.  As I recall, the .357 hollowpoint had the most penetration through the softcover books.  The .45 ball was set against hard cover books and slugged against the first book.  Did you try .45 hollowpoint and what were the results?

Kinda tough to sell a TV show on that premise but I wondered that myself.....and I do carry in my house.
