Bill, there was a legitimate reason for banning the import of Norinco's, They got caught trying to smuggle 18,000 Full auto AK's into the US, (Probably for shipment to Mexico ) right after they got caught selling Scud Missiles to N Korea.
Norinco is a commercial front for the Chinese army and much of their production takes place in labor camps.

I shot skeet the other day with a guy that paid $10,000 for his over-under shotgun. I am new to skeet so be blew me away, but a friend  "out shot" him with a $400 semi auto shotgun.

As a civilian, this rifle is either in the "coolness" category or in the "I am fighting off the zombies" category. You can't put a price on being cool so be it if that is your route go for it. (Some marketing folks have learned that higher prices contribute the products appeal.)

If it is the zombies, then I think I'd buy 2 (maybe 3) ARs or 5 or 6 AKs for that price and distribute them to others and/or have back-ups.  ;D

Well it looks like most of us are guilty of the same thing...Practicality...I have been like everyone else in that I have been drooling over everything from articles, ads, posters and tv show promoting the ACR. I even play with the gun on Call of Duty Modern Warfare!!! But to think I may have to sell 3 of my (perfectly good) AR's or take away from my kids college funds to afford one? Not happening!!! Now I do understand the cool factor and for those who have the money, I say nice gun! I even understand the need for a quick change barrel and the need to change from NATO to Warsaw Calibers in a moments notice. To have one platforn that can go from a CQB in 5.56 to a EBR in .308 is fantastic. But for $3000.00 I better get 3 barrels choices in 2 calibers with 1 red dot and 1 varible scope. Plus throw in about 10 Pmags and a soft sided case...My point is I can buy 1 AR lower with several stocks and about 3 uppers ranging from .22lr to .50BMG...Come on guys, we currently have a democractic president that you want to convince that the services need this rifle? I have been a big fan of Magpul for awhile and own alot of their products. I am very budget concious person and found that Magpul prices were affordable for most people. Now I wonder?

You touched on the very reason it is $3000 - the gummint. When they sell this to the Feds, they will make a huge profit on the volume of rifles and spares. And the receiver of all this cash will not be Magpul - it will be Bushmaster/Cerberus. Magpul sold the rifle to them, via Remington/Cerberus.

Considering I just received this E-Mail from CDNN Investments this morning, I would have to say they are launching this thing with way too high of a price point.

I just read an article about a Les Baer (custom) AR that shoots 1/2MOA and MSRP is only $2600.  Sound like a better deal. (said by someone who just spent more on a .308 AR, so I may be a bad judge of value)
