And Ford is better? Chevy Rocks and Ford Blows...........spark plugs!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=perM62V-XZE&NR=1

At ConsumerAffairs.com, we hear from Ford owners every day ... and they are not happy. Their Ford cars and trucks are still spitting spark plugs, catching fire and locking up the ignition. In response, Ford stonewalls, federal safety regulators dawdle and dealers -- well, the dealers, as always, do whatever they can get by with.

Thousands of Ford owners have suffered the ordeal of a spark plug being spit out of their engine, damaging the head and costing thousands of dollars to repair. Ford refuses to help, even if the car or truck is still under warranty.

Many Ford dealers feign surprise at the sight of a spark plug blown out of its position in the cylinder head and profess to have never seen anything like the mess spread out before them.

Those denials are blatantly false, disingenuous and misleading. Lies, in other words.

"Ford has known of the spark plug blow-out problem for a long, long time," one angry Ford mechanic told us. "They even have a service bulletin regarding it. They insist they don't but they do."

The mechanic also charged that Ford knowingly advises customers to opt for the most expensive repair procedure: "They also say the only way to fix it is to replace the heads and will not do it any other way. I have personally repaired three trucks in less than 30 minutes with a spark plug rethread kit."

The problem is that the spark plug holes have less than 3 threads new from the manufacturer and over time they strip and blow out," the mechanic told us.

Following the Ford recommendation requires owners to replace both the cylinder head and the spark plugs. The cost varies depending upon dealer but is approximately $3,000.

Ford Stonewalls, NHTSA Nods

Publicly, Ford continues to stonewall the spark-plug-spitting problem and refuses to acknowledge any responsibility.

The automaker has a powerful ally in the nation's No. 1 automobile safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

NHTSA is backing up Ford by refusing to consider the issue beyond stating that their analysis of 474 complaints describing the incidents "found only a very few alleged any safety-related consequences. None of these showed any evidence of a serious safety consequence."

NHTSA concluded its brief probe by saying, "In the need to allocate and prioritize limited resources to best accomplish the agency's safety mission, the petition (for a full-scale investigation possibly leading to a recall) is denied."

Mike of Sarasota, Florida put it this way: "My Ford F350 pickup blew out a spark plug in cylinder number three. I spoke with a friend who works at a Ford dealership. I said you'll never guess what happened to my truck Bob. He said make you a bet. You blew out a spark plug."

Mike got the usual treatment -- no help from Ford and an estimated repair cost of nearly $3,000.

APRIL 2008 -- Ford is recalling 64,754 MY 2008 F-250 and F-350 single rear wheel, 4x4, 156 inch wheel base pickup trucks equipped with a two piece drive shaft for failing to conform to the fuel spillage requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301, "Fuel System Integrity." During a 30 mph frontal impact into a rigid barrier, the fuel tank can move forward and contact a frame cross member, potentially causing damage to the fuel delivery module which can result in fuel spillage. Fuel spillage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Dealers will install a bracket on the affected vehicles free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or before May 26, 2008. Owners may contact Ford at 1-800-392-3673. 08V191

FEBRUARY 2008 -- Ford is recalling 87,515 MY 2008 F250, F350, F450, and F550 vehicles for failing to comply with all the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 207, "Seating Systems." Some 40% split and captain's chair driver's seats, equipped with lumbar supports, may have improper welds at the joint of the seat back pivot bracket and the seat back frame. In the event of a crash, the seat side pivot bracket may crack or break, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Dealers will add reinforcement to the driver's seat back frame on the 40% split or captain's chair seat equipped with lumbar support or, if necessary, the seat back frame will be replaced. The recall is expected to begin on or about March 24, 2008.  08V096

NOVEMBER 2007 -- Ford is recalling 1,176,000 MY 1997-2003 F-Super Duty, E-Series and Excursion vehicles equipped with 7.3L diesel engines. The camshaft position sensor located on the engine of the vehicle may function intermittently, possibly resulting in an engine stall. In the event of an engine stall, a crash could result without warning. Dealers will inspect the sensor and replace it with an improved camshaft position sensor. The recall is expected to begin during January 2008. 07V553

NOVEMBER 2007 -- Ford is recalling 45 MY 2008 Focus, Expedition, F250 and F350 vehicles for failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, 'Occupant Crash Protection.' The driver air bag module may not have been properly assembled. This condition may prevent the driver air bag from properly deploying and reduce occupant protection in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the driver air bag module. The recall began on November 20, 2007. 07V541

Before GM became Government Motors, this argument was as pointless as 9MM versus .45ACP.
Now with Obummer at the helm the only ones who stick up for GM are the ones dumb enough to vote for him in the first place.
If you don't want the #1 selling F150 get a differant American made car, buy Toyota.

And remember, real trucks don't use spark plugs.

I refuse to buy new Fords just because of Bill Ford and his asinine support for tree-huggers and animal rights types who ultimately want to shut down ranching, and gays. I'm perfectly happy with my used Ford F350 diesel, which put not one penny into Ford's pocket.

When it comes to trucks, chevy and ford change back and forth all the time.  In the late 40's when teh F-Series started it took a lead in quality and innovation, so chevy turned around and made better trucks in the 50s.  Late 60's early 70's Chevys were much better than the ford competiton until 73...from 73-87 the c/k trucks were only good for people to study just how fast rust could propogate while the 73-79 F-150s were basiclly bullet proof with the 351 or 300 and mated to a C-6 tranny (know of one example now over 1/2 million miles with original motor and trans...rebuilt but original).  Then in 88 when the 88-98 silverados came out they had ford spanked in ever possible category.  Then in 97 Ford actually redesigned the F-150 instead of updating the body panels like thay had for 25 years.  Since that time Ford has made exceptional trucks with iffy powerplants...especially in 3/4 ton and bigger.  Awesome truck with crappy powerstroke diesels.

I still say if i could get a brand new F-250 with the GM duramax/allison combo.... that would be the ultimate truck..

It's pretty much 6 of one and a half-dozen of the other except for the fact that buying GM is buying Government Motors.  Ford, whatever their failings, has managed to do what they do without a government hand-out.  That simplifies the choice for me.  Both the best and worst cars I've owned have been Ford products--Best '68 XR-7 with a 302 (man, I loved that car);  Worst '96 Tempo (front wheel assembly broke free from the unibody under passive conditions).  Current vehicle is a manual 5-speed 4WD '98 Explorer with 128,000 on the clock and still doesn't use much more than a drop of oil between changes.  Just drove it from Florida to California and back over Christmas and managed to get about 19 to the gallon.

All American car companies face one issue - Union benefits (especially retirement), and GM added going into lending with their GMAC branch.  Not only did they lend for vehicles, but they expanded into real estate.  This is what happens when you diversify outside your purpose.

Like the rabbit said, it is  a horse a piece!  When Ford Pintos were exploding I asked a rep why Chev didn't exploit that, and his reply was the Chevette does the same thing but "we've been lucky." As he kept shipping me parts for a safety recall done very quietly.  When GM was being sued for pick saddle tanks exploding Ford was in suits over their conversion vehicles spilling fuel and burning while idling.

Our car washes down here don't single out GM.  They have signs warning about ALL antenas and extended mirrors.  They warn of loose trim, running boards, box liners and non-hidden windshield wipers.  The sign at the beginning tells me that someone wants to make an example of GM, and I wonder what they will do when a Ford falls apart in their wash.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.
