D.C.'s murder rate has plummeted since gun verdict

Sorry TAB:

Quote
The District of Columbia’s murder rate plummeted by an astounding 25 percent last year, much faster than for the US as a whole or for similarly sized cities. If you had asked Chicago’s Mayor Daley, that wasn’t supposed to happen. The Supreme Court’s 2008 decision to strike down DC’s handgun ban and gunlock requirements should have lead to a surge in murders, with Wild West shootouts.

E Gads....Say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!!!
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

For the Patriots of this country, the Constitution is second only to the Bible for most. For those who love this country, but do not share my personal beliefs, it is their Bible. To them nothing comes before the Constitution of these United States of America. For this we are all labeled potential terrorists. ~ Dean Garrison

"When it comes to the enemy, just because they ain't pullin' a trigger, doesn't mean they ain't totin' ammo for those that are."~PegLeg

Not true. Try living there in the late '80s, early ninties. My boss got gunned down in a stick up at a high end outfitters in NW. He died for a few Patagonia rain coats and five bills. My friend was in the back and could have taken them if she'd been allowed to bring her Ruger from her home in Maryland into the District. She wasn't, and we got to go to the funeral of a 32 year old guy with a two year old son, all the while hearing it described as yet more "gun violence" on local news. >:( :'(

Anti: I think some of you gentleman would choose to apply a gun shaped remedy to any problem or potential problem that presented itself? Your reverance (sic) for firearms is maintained with an almost religious zeal. The mind boggles! it really does...

Me: Naw, we just apply a gun-shaped remedy to those extreme life threatening situations that call for it. All the less urgent problems we're willing to discuss.

I just though they were culling the herd for us.

Till good folks get in the way. Back during the crack wars in DC ('86-'90) most folks who got shot knew why, OR they were standing next to, or lived across the street, or were on the bus with someone who did. Or, in my boss' case, ran afoul of a desprate idiot out for cash. It is exhibit A as to why gun control and prohibition are bad ideas.
FQ13 whose views on both these isues were pretty well hardened by going to a funeral when I was 20. I'll still listen to a well reasoned argument, but its going to take a hell of a lot of convincing for me to support prohibition or gun control. Getting to wash you friend's blood off the wall (literally) tends to have that effect. Sarah Brady and Bill Bennet can both kiss my ass.

It was Bush's fault.
