Sections of Georgetown (in the DC district), to this day, most folks would not walk down late at night. However, on the other end of Georgetown, all the House and Senate have their historical residences WITH ARMED SECURITY, and bullet proof windows.

Hmmmm.......

Wonder if Chicago will "get it"......Try to get a Class III license in Illinois, even after all the checks, ATF stamps, fees, taxes, admin charges, YOU STILL CAN'T...

Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

It was Bush's fault.
 ::)
Actually, it was. Bush the elder that is. Him and that Pharisee Bill Bennet and their screwed up war on drugs, as well  their unnecessary tolerance for screwed up gun laws in a Federal District that disarmed the populace while their prohibition caused crime to sky rocket. I lay my boss (and friend's) death directly on George Bush's door step. And that's not me hating the GOP either
Its  A) pursuing a policy sure to increase crime
and B) disarming the populace so they can't defend themselves against the criminals you created.
A Dem probably would have done the same thing, but Bush was President and the buck stops with him. My boss didn't die so some idiot could buy beer. He wasn't a victim of "The war on cigarettes", so yeah, I do blame Bush. Please tell me where I'm wrong.

OK. you're wrong.

You're wrong because you are falling into the well-laid trap of blaming one person for what has been a broad-brushed systemic effort to destroy not only the 2A but key elements of American life (1A, religion, history, the US Constitution, et al.), in order to bring us as a country down.

You are wrong (typically) in taking the easy path so you can point a finger at one person (who you would have us believe just happened to be a Rep. by disingenuously pointing out that a Dem "probably would have done the same thing") when that person had little to do with the way things have been going for years, if not decades.

It is my hope that someday you get past your petty hatreds and start paying attention to how things really work. Then you will not hate, you will seethe with anger.

Path
Take a pill. For the 5 hundreth time I AM NOT A DEMOCRAT! There is no petty hatred of one party here (I hate them both). You, on the other hand seem to have a knee jerk instinct to defend the GOP. I have written and presented peer reviewed papers to the American Political Science Association on drug war history. I think I know the score here. Hell, it started (on a federal level) under Wilson, Demorat. The Omnibus Drug Control Act of 1986 (which set up assinine mandatory minimums) was the brain child of Tip O'Neil as democratic as it gets. I understand this. I am not "disingeuously" doing anything. I am pointing out, correctly, that Bush had the power to influence, in fact determine if he got serious about it, DC gun laws. He also could have abandoned the abortion of a drug war. He did neither thing. I know he was far fom alone. But the funny thing is Path, when four star generals start saluting you and you are introuced to the US Congress as "Mr. President", you have to take responsibilty for those thigs you have control over. DC gun laws and drug policy from 1988-1992 fit squarley in that category. I'm not the one with a bias here Path, its you. Say it with me now, Republicans can F@ck up and should be held to account when they do, I know it will be hard at first, but just try it.

Hell, would you claim to be part of Pelosi's party? Particularly if you're not? Its like putting a Cheney '12 sticker on your car. Who would do that? I registered GOP in Indiana and Dem in Fl. just because they have closed primaries in both states, and in both it was (is) pretty much a one party system, so if you want a voice you vote in the primary. Still, I really, really do not feel either party represents me. I have no use for either one of them.
