I'm in need of some information an a decent (won't brake the bank) Merlot wine.

I don't drink and know more about Balsamic Vinegar than I do about wine.

thanks in advance.

Kendall-Jackson wines are usually pretty good, pricier than most off the shelf stuff, but still reasonable. I drink mostly white, so I can't help much beyond that.

Oh, stay away from the merlot-in-a-box brands too!  ;D

+1 for Kendall-Jackson...... its probably the best buy for reasonably priced (Super market) wines. Also, if you are looking for a Red but dont like dry wines.... they have a great Pinot Noir.

You also may want to concentrate on location rather then brand..... Just about anything made in Nappa Valley, Chile, Austrailia, France, Italy are good.

BTW.... the best tasting bubbly out there is Martini & Rossi Asti....... and it can be had for $13-$15 ;)

Berringer makes a very good white merlot. Very reasonable. $15-20 +/-  Also widely available. Just make sure it's the WHITE merlot. As the regular merlot tends to be very overpowering.

What are you be serving it with? As a rule merlot tends to be medium bodied with a lot of fruit. They can be almost jammy or sweet if you're not careful. Most however aren't and tend to be more friendly to white wine drinkers and non-wine people than say, a cab. But the key to a merlot is knowing what to pair it with as it can be too much (say a grilled veal chop) or too lttle (say a nice beef stew) in a heck of a hurry.

White Merlot is what used to be called rose wine.  It is an abomination to those of us who really enjoy a nice glass of real merlot (sorry if this is one of your favorites).  And I would challenge you on your assessment that anything Berringer makes is "quite good."

For a reasonably good merlot at a reasonable price, I would recommend Barefoot Vinyards.  For a reasonable merlot at an exceptional price, Gallo Family Merlot is a good wine.  You will also find some decent Chilean merlots--specifically Frontera by Concha y Toro.  It is a fairly good merlot at a very reasonable price.  Another somewhat more expensive but quite good merlot is Fat Bastard.
