Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there some kind of silly maritime law that forbids merchant ships to be armed in international waters? Bill T.

no there is not, but all countrys have laws reguarding importing of firearms.

When I was in the USCG we loocked for 3 things, in this order.

drugs
guns
people
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

Then simply kill them when they approach. What's the problem?   Bill T.

Instead of hiring over 10,000 IRS agents, Maybe, just maybe, we could utilize an International (meaning U.S. does 98%) Anti Piracy Task Force.

Aircraft, does cover the most area, and has the weapon platforms to send the motherships to Davey Jones Locker. Fast attack boats, like PT boats, (or the Pershing) ::) used as armed escorts, and hard, lethal, justifiable measures to take care of these Maritime Terrorists, should be a bigger priority than it seems to be..

Record Levels??? Geez. Jefferson dispatched our forces to take care of Barbary Pirates, and were ordered to give "No Quarter" to pirates..

The piracy stopped... On deck trials, and sentence carried out (hung from the yardarm) immediately after sentence, than their fish food....

What the hell? Why am I shaking my head that we are unwilling or not making this a priority? Some smart bombs to coastal towns in Somalia will piss of who?

The UN? Muslim's?  We're already infidels....and the UN doesn't give a rats a** about Somalia, just like Haiti, it provides the UN with nothing, so who cares???

Let's get some security on the high seas, and get the Pirates dead....

""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. Seriously, for what these vessels are worth, along with the value of the cargo they carry, not to mention the safety of the crew, why not just equip them with a mini gun forward and aft? They could shred these vermin before they got within 500 yards. Seems like an awfully cheap investment.  Bill T.

Your right billt, however, trained security teams on board could be an equalizer.  They can be offloaded past the "danger zone" offshore, and it would still be cheaper than ransoms. An Israeli security team armed with nothing but handguns, repelled an attempt on a cruise ship last year.

Where do I sign up?
