Most FFL's will charge a fee for handling it, but they usually get better rates on shipping. I'd start with the call to Taurus and then call your local FFL to ask what they want to handle it for you. Handling it yourself really isn't that hard though. I'd go with what ever method is the most cost effective. ;D

I've never heard of anyone charging for repair work.  FWIW ffls can ship hand guns thru the post office, you can't.

Gandermountain charged me to ship a Smith and Wesson revolver back to Smith and even charged me for test ammo when it came back.

Sorry gun r us you can ship USPS and is cheapest way as long as it is not a transfer of ownership but shipping to repair is OK I have done it to hard chrome a S&W. $17.00+- with Ins.It is not over night though.

Sending Handguns through the USPS isn't legal for normal citizens! The only exception to the rule is for FFL holders, they can legally send Handguns through the USPS. If you did it I wouldn't admit to it anymore! Long guns are a different story you can send them through the USPS. When you ship a firearm your also required to tell the shipper it's a firearm. Additionally it's the UPS/FedEx policies  that require the overnight shipping, there's no law requiring it.

Smith charged you for test ammo?

personally if they wanted to charge me to ship a gun back to the manufactor that I bought there, I would never enter that store again.

its like 2 mins of record keeping and like $15 bucks in postage, which they get back.   I've never heard of it happening out here, but I don't know anyone that buys guns at the big box stores as you can find them cheaper at the mom and pops.

Another thing to consider....if you have a local gunsmith, see how much he/she would charge to fix the problem for you. If it's cheaper than shipping to Taurus, let them do it.  I'd rather spend my money locally than with UPS or FedEx....  8)
Why, yes....I'm the right-wing extremist Obama warned you about... ;D

Well I sent it off today via UPS.  I'll let you know what happens and how long it takes.

You need to cut them a break, TAB.

With all the customers handling guns and ammo the Workman's Comp payments for all the employees injured by all the customer ND must be staggering, not to mention other liability issues.

The company needs to make up these costs someplace.  :D :D
