Video - Frank Luntz polling on guns
« on: May 11, 2010, 09:25:34 AM »

*PBS opens this video by labeling Luntz as a "Republican pollster".... Actually, he comes across as a pretty liberal person (He has been on Bill Mahar several times and shown his personal beliefs). He is very good at what he does and has done a lot of work on Fox News, but to pigeon hole him as a Republican is pretty poor journalism at best.

He IS a Republican pollster and one of the best ever born. The guy is a legend in my field. He works for the GOP and GOP candidates. He has never worked for a Democrat. His only non GOP political work was for the Likkud Party in Israel and the Conservative Party in the UK as well as some other conservative parties globally. He is to right leaning politicians what Rahm Emmanuel and James Carville are to the left.  If you call him a liberal to his face, he will punch you in the mouth (which I would pay good money to see). ;D If you consider Luntz a liberal, you are so far to the right you are spinning in circles.

So, Chris Mathews and Bill Maher are Repubnlicans now ??? He has also done a great deal of work on all the cable and network news..... He also has done polling for elections in the UK, Ireland, and Australia.

What I was saying is that his personal views seem to be rather liberal (Watch him yuck it up and bash the right with Bill Maher next time he is on), but professionally he will go where ever the paycheck is. Labeling him as a mouth piece for Republicans simply because he has been showing up a lot on FOX News lately is rather weak

All I'm saying is that he works for the GOP and conservative foreign parties. Him showing up on Bill Maher says nothing about his politics, its just his desire for publicity. Narccicist yes. Liberal, no. I don't pretend to be an expert on the guy. I'm just saying that he is as much a liberal as Carville is a conservative. He's a damn good political operator who works for the right. Thats all I know about him.

Political operative ???

Not really, dude. He is just a guy who ownes his own business and does what he can to make a paycheck and sell books.

You keep comparing him to Carville, but that is apples to oranges. Carville actually was paid to help get Bill Clinton and Hillary elected and has written several books about his left wing progressive views.

I think once again you are letting your liberal bias cloud your judgement. On the one hand you say that you know nothing about him and then you call him an operative for the right, a narccicist, you equate his political views as being as extreme as Carville and Rahm Emmanuel, and you claim that he would be violently offended if someone called him a liberal. ???

Seriously, John, your hatred is thinnly vailed

Eric
"My hatred is thinly veiled'?  Newsflash: I admire the guy. He may play for a team I don't like, but that doesn't mean he isn't damn good. You may hate the Colts, but you have to admire Peyton Manning. Same with Luntz. He is a "political operative" (defined as someone who gets paid to win elections) . That's not an object of scorn for me. You forget what I do for a living. I study American politics. Hell, if political scientists had trading cards, Luntz, and Carville, would be like Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron. Love their teams or hate them, but the guys just don't lose. I think this is the difference between you and me. You are like a sports fan who roots for a team. I am like a sports fan that just loves the game. You want to watch you favorite team, or those could be a threat to them in the playoffs, otherwise, you'll watch something else. Me, I could watch the Browns play the Bucanneers and have just as a good a time. You take it personally. I don't. I believe what I believe, but it doesn't mean I can't appreciate a well made play that the other guy executes.  There is no bias, liberal or otherwise, clouding my judgement. Carville and Luntz are guys that put their candidates into office period. Whether the system should work that way is a whole different question. Here, I will have little good to say about a set of rules that makes guys like this neccessary, but as long as it what it is, they are both damn good at thier jobs. I will close with this. They would both be flattered by being compared to one another, because they are both professionals at the top of their game. (Crazy as hell, but at the top none the less).
Peace

I never said you hated him.

You never read it for content did you? Luntz is not an operative trying to put candidates into office! He is selling a service and the occasional product (books).

And that service would be what? Oh, yeah, putting candidates into office. Unless there are people paying him to help them lose? The fact that he works only for right leaning parties is pure coincidence I'm sure. ::) Look, I don't know why you think me saying that the guy is an ideologically (and financially) motivated hired gun is a bad thing. I don't and he sure as hell doesn't, its what's made him rich. He is a smart guy who charges conservative candidates good money to help them win elections. There are others (generally less talented) who do the same on the left. I think that's an honest job. What exactly is your problem with this?

He is a consultant who also does polling!

I guess you can put all these down as GOP operatives too, since he has done work for all of them ???

General Motors, Federal Express, Disney, American Express, AT&T, Microsoft, Lowe’s, Pfizer, Kroger, McDonalds, U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Vast right wing conspiracy!

*I stand by my Buggs Bunny reference ::)

BTW, your comparison of politics to a spectator sport/entertainment is disgusting. Those clowns in Washington are trying to dismantle our country and yes, I do take that very personally. This is not a college debate tournament.... the future of our democracy is in jeopardy and to sit there eating popcorn while you watch this country being raped is outrageos.
