Gander house brand lights?
« on: June 08, 2010, 11:18:55 PM »
I bought a 6P Surefire from Gander at $60. I love the construction, its a tank. Still, its only 65 lumens. I'm not sure its worth the money. I can by a Gander house brand for about the same price in 235 lumens. Alternatively, I can get a Streamlight Buckmaster at 125 Lumen for the same money. Sale lasts the whole week. Buying a flashlight should not be this hard. For $50 bucks, where do I spend it?

Dude! You're unemployed, Stop buying flashlights!!

I mean, I'm a flashlight junkie too (it's a minor compulsion and I can handle it - if I want to), and I do have a houseful of people relying on me, so I have walked away from any number of things cool - but uneeded in the greater scheme of things. Unemployment checks only go so far.

Go to COSTCO.  Look at their tactical lights.  Get a two-pack for around $30.The flashlights are true tactical in solid aluminum casing and with a "windshield" buster front end.  They also come with two levels of brightness and a strobe function.  I don't have the lumen details at hand, but on the "bright" setting the thing is a retina-burning torch. I've seen many $100-plus units that would find it hard to compete with this unit.   Perhaps the best thing is it uses standard batteries available at Publix or CVS or anyplace one might think of buying batteries.

And don't worry about spending money you don't have while you're unemployed.  I'm sure your boy Odamna's money will arrive soon. ;D

Offered by Crusader, just to shed a little light on the subject. ;)

Semi-unemployed. I do reasearch, mostly for lawyers. It pays pretty well, when I can get the work. And I don't take unemployment checks. I probably should, but I don't.  A flashlight is affordable.

Yes, you should.
You earned it, it is not some "entitlement/ handout, it is paid by you and your former employer.

Agree, any money you earn over and above may deduct from your actual benefit but Tom's right!

Again!

Don't waste the benefits.

My 'carry in my pocket every day-everywhere' light for the past year has been a Coleman 65 lumen light I actually found at wally-world (I wasn't shopping for lights at the time, but figured for the price, what the heck). It is aluminum, with striking bezel, LED, runs on 3 AAA batteries, has a lanyard, and fits well in my pocket. It is bright enough to blind you at 'in-the -house' distances and you can't stare into it at distances up to 75'. It is bright and sharp enough to be able to identify items out to 100 yards (I can differentiate varmints on our property at distance). Downside is it only has on/off function, but for $20, it has been a good light so far (at least a good alternative until finances allow a better purchase).
