The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan has been summoned to Washington to explain derogatory comments about President Barack Obama and his colleagues, administration officials said Tuesday.

The move came hours after General Stanley McChrystal apologized for comments by his aides insulting some of President Barack Obama's closest advisers in an article to be published in Rolling Stone magazine. 

In the magazine profile, his aides are quoted mocking Vice President Joe Biden and Richard Holbrooke, the special U.S. representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan.

McChrystal has seized control of the war "by never taking his eye off the real enemy: The wimps in the White House."

I don't know what kind of job McChrystal is doing, but if he is doing a good job, Obama could have defused this crisis and gained many points with the Military by simply saying   "Yes, compared to the General and our troops, we are wimps".  Then had a quiet discussion with the General about how to develop a good working relationship between the leader of our Afgan forces and their Commander In Chief.

Of course, that would require The Commander In Cheif to give a damn about the military.

The good General simply gave voice to what we all know to be true.  He will likely be fired/forced to resign because he is a leader with vision--and Odamna and his crew are fearful of what they don't begin to comprehend.

I'm probably in the minority but my $.02

He needs to go.

Regardless of who is the POTUS is you need to be respectful of the office if not the man.  It would appear he ran a less than profesional staff and allowed junior staff officers to be critical in public of the civilian leadership.  Not allowed by any decent leader.

There is always going to be some complaining and you'll never stop people from voicing their opinions. Doing it in front of the press is something no general officer should allow. If anything it look liked they did it to suck up to his views.

If things were going gang busters in AFPAK it would be a an ass chewing but we are in the same place as when he took over. He certainly is no Patton or MacArthur.

We have a long tradition of Generals being relieved because they did not know when to shut their pie holes, MacArthur is one example, McClellan's poor performance at Antietam was simply an excuse to rid the Lincoln of a General who was campaigning for President from the head of the Army of the Potomac.
I agree with Ratcatcher, while I agree with what was said about those "Striped pants sissies" in DC, if we are to maintain the integrity of the Republic  then the military MUST remain aloof from the political issues of they day
