Oh, it's been there since right after 9/11

Way to go Caltrans.

SUNOL, CAlif. -- Interstate 680, in and out of the Silicon Valley, is one of the bay area's busiest freeways. And everyday for the last eight and half years there was a hillside mural motorists passed on the Sunol grade.

"It just made me feel really patriotic, just seeing it everyday," said motorcyclist Dave Freely.

Until Wednesday, motorists saw a 35 foot mural of the American flag painted on a concrete retaining wall.

On Thursday, it was just gray concrete painted over by Caltrans.

"It was put on the list for graffiti removal and yesterday morning they painted over it with grey concrete paint," said Allyn Amsk of Caltrans.
Thomas Jefferson: The strongest reason for the people to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against the tyranny of government. That is why our masters in Washington are so anxious to disarm us. They are not afraid of criminals. They are afraid of a populace which cannot be subdued by tyrants."
Col. Jeff Cooper.

It should have been at the bottom of the list, but it should have been painted over unless they got a permit or something. Government can't pick and choose which messages to leave up and which to take down. It has to be content neutral. Come up with an application process for murals and up it stays, other wise it goes own. Otherwise, a Mural praising BO stays up and one of W goes down. Any of you support that?
FQ13 who doesn't expect this view to be popular, but I really don't want them selecting for political or religious content either. That is the greater danger. If you don't see that, you've got your head in the sand and your ass in the air.

This does upset me to the 9's. But lets take it from a different slant, we have so many signs we are supposed to obey everyday, stop signs, school zones, slow traffic, etc.. and traffic lights, red stop, green go, and yellow, run like hell to beat it, ( tongue in cheek ), the U.S. Flag has much the same rules, raised high, all systems go, mid mast, someone of respect has passed, upside down, in distress, it has long established rules, and they should be made into law, the same as a stop sign being removed or run over, or ignored, you get a ticket for not following the RULES. Etiquette, no different than our normal warning signs, but seldom enforced, slow men crossing,, etc.. a foreign flag above ours means this place has been occupied by unfriendly forces, and should be dealt with, like this brave man did. Our flag and the flags of other countries are part of communication, done visually, and no matter how ignorant, soldiers are taught what it means, and others who use our flag without real knowledge, and desecrate it are criminals. This was private property, and they can do what they want, But, I think if they ever accept the flag, then they need to get permission to remove it.

Let the games begin and Happy 4th, independence day, may our flags wave high.

It was painted eight and a half years ago, they now who did it, and they have photos of them doing it.  CalTrans comes up with the BS that they didn't know it was on their property, and as soon as they find out they destroy it.

This is Kalifornia Krap!

Given the circumstances, they could have found a way to leave it if they wanted to.  But, they chose to be assholes!

Welcome to Mexifornia!

The mindless bureaucrats that run the infrastructure for the progressives.  Kind of like the old Soviet Union.  Welcome to Kalifornia.

It should have only been retouched, or been replaced with a more prominent flag with better paint.
