As a wine snob, I have enjoyed the three fingers region of NY wine, it's about as far from Bloomberg as you can get.
Chile, Argentina, Australia, far outweigh, europe. Their soil has been so over used, it renders their swill to expensive grape juice.
Aussie's hired away experts, and have produced fantastic wines,
Kalifornia, OK is a tough call. there are real farmers, real winemakers, real experts, and NAPA, Russian River, Paso Rolbles, Alexander Valley, Sonoma, are just far enough away from the Berkley crowd to know reality, from a business perspective.
Let Mexico have the Southern half.
Plus my Uncle owns and runs an oyster farm on Tomales Bay, just outside of NAPA.
Salud,....I'll have another Pinot Noir AMERICAN WINE!!!
