If it is, it is misplaced sarcasm, The South Koreans, where those guns did all that killing, continue to show their appreciation for our troops with expense paid tours for them.
It's actually comical, every time North Korea starts rattling their saber the South invites the Korean War vets over for a little stroll down memories DMZ

I had read the M1 carbines were manufactured by Universal, not the coveted Rock-olas... It's a damn shame as the price for Garands, and the Carbines are getting to a premium. 
I doubt very much, (though I do not KNOW ) that any care was taken about manufacturers. More likely some one was told "load up that warehouse and ship it to Korea." I would expect all WWII makers to be represented. Also, there will not be any Universal as they were copies made strictly for the civilian market, all will be WWII vintage.
