Cool New Pistol Carbine 9mm, .40, .45
« on: November 01, 2010, 12:55:47 PM »
Basfu posted this on the best defense thread, but I thought I'd post it here. The carbine is made by a company I haven't heard of EMF Company inc. out of New York. The carbine is the JR (Just Right) model. Its basically an AR flatop style frame. The cool thing is its designed to take Glock mags, and can apperently be adjusted to take other brands.  This might be the illusive .45 carbine for a rifle pistol combo. Check out the link. If anyone has heard anything I'd be curious. The only down side is that its a bit pricy, but not outrageously so.

I can't click through the link since the proxy here clamps down on "weapons" sites, but EMF has been around quite a while.  They import a lot of mid-tier / mid-priced "cowboy guns" from Italy and Brazil.  Single actions, lever guns, Sharps replicas and such.

Yeah its high, but about the same as a lower end AR. If it were $200 cheaper I'd be saving my pennies. On the other hand, if Highpoint took Glock mags I'd already own one. :-\

Yes it's a little expensive, but somebody has been listening.   A carbine that uses magazine from the most popular semi-auto.   Very cool.  I'd love to know what other mags are adaptable.

I also wonder if this might not prompt other manufacturers to get on the band wagon.   Maybe the prices will come down next year.

Might be missing the point (or I'm not explaining it very well).   The idea is to use the same magazine between handgun and carbine.  Hence the interest in the JR model which uses Glock Mags.    It comes from the idea of minimum equipment (size and weight) to haul in a bug-out situation.  If it were an absolute minimum you could carry with you wouldn't it be useful if you had one handgun, one rifle, one caliber and  one set of mags.      This appears to be one of the few currently produced to fit the bill.

Very cool gun TW.  I would think about one if I had the green, and would buy one over a Hi-Point for the 36 round mag. At $20 a pop for the mags, you can buy 6-10 and be in business even if you never see another one. Hell, if the damn gun survived the Winter War, I'll take it! It has to be at least AK tough.
Still though, the perk of the JR carbine is the Glock interchangability. Two (or more) guns, one mag, and in .45, it will do for SD and close range hunting.

Cool, two 33rounders taped together with a spacer in between = 66 rounds of fun!

71 rd. mag. $40. ;)

I understand the "universality" and what a great thing concept of a carbine that shoots with pistol mags, in a standard round.

That is a manufacturers issue. I, IMHO, would love to see a carbine utilize a high cap .40 or .45 caliber mag, that would work in a pistol, that would work for both platforms.

But I only see "a glimpse", from gun makers. EMF makes awesome "cowboy" pistols. I look forward to other gun makers, expanding this concept.

Glock Model 21 Carbine? Uses same mag as pistol? Expanded to 20/ 30rd mags? Sounds all good to me.
