I agree. Shoot it. Any collectors value is already gone.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. WI the cheapest I saw on Gun Broker was 250 for a beat up obscure caliber, most were 650 and up, and they had been drilled and tapped for scope mounts etc..., I'd go for 650 and see what happens, or just keep it, it is more than a wall hanger..

A lot of that stuff can be cleaned and fixed up without too much cost or work. The dent near the buttstock can be steamed out. The buggered up screws can be replaced, and that plastic insert in the sight dovetail can be replaced by a nice blued Marbles for under $10.00. Just because it's only a "shooter" doesn't mean it has to look like one. If it were mine I would check around with some gunsmiths that have done this sort of work you can check out. Talk price, and go from there. You don't need to spend thousands with a super pro like Doug Turnbull for a complete restoration, but a few hundred should really improve things.  Bill T.
