my stepfather flew bombers in Northern Africa during WWII and said that most English officers carried a riding crop. why? to beat the shoe shine boys with of course! if they asked to shine your shoes and you told them no, the little stinkers would swipe the officers pantleg with some shoe polish. (doesn't look good on khaki) riding crop usually kept them from misbehaving.

Apparently Cairo was the worst. I can believe that, have any of you done a 'deal' with an Egyptian? even if they GIVE you something, they are still ripping you off somehow.
