The current one is what I learned in the army except I is India.
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. Letter to Alexander Hamilton, Friday, May 02, 1783

Thanks Jumbo, when I read your post I thought, "Oh crap, that's #1 wrong  ;D

The current one is what I learned in the army except I is India.

I leanred the new one, but that was in 99-00

They changed it in the late 50's or very early 60's, some to sound clearer over radio, but "J" was changed because "Jig" was a derogatory term for Blacks as well as a fishing term.

They're pretty easy for me as the Navy designation for Soviet submarines was the same alphabet though not in any particular order.

Well done!  Now, can you recite them to a comely young ticket clerk on a warm spring day in Connecticut?

 ;D

From TW

"Jig" derogatory"

Yes, The evil "N" word wasn't the only one, "smoke", "darky",  and "Jig", a contraction of "Jigaboo", are ones that I remember hearing back in the day.

Its also a type of fixture, a dance, joke/trick and a type of water/solid seperator.

best guess is where it was from( in this context anyways ) was the dance.

Dance a jig, and "the jig is up" I'm familiar with, the other 2  are new to me.
