Not to sound like a total prick but it's NYC so who really gives a hoot!

Don't like the situation, move to a reasonably well managed municipality, if there IS one!  If I could live in a city for FREE I wouldn't!

There was a parking ban in my little burg, always is in the winter.  You get plowed in, your tough luck.  Car gets cleaved in half by a loader, same deal.  Live with it or move!

Here's a simple question M58. wouldn't it have been easier to tow the SUV out of the way first? It weighs a 10th of the loader and would have given them maneuvering room? Or, failing that, called the plates in to the PD, since it looked like a city tow truck, and maybe called the driver? I mean, it wasn't like this was a time critical job and next to a house, a car is the average person's most expensive possesion. Just a thought, and obviously something foriegn to these guys. I mean honestly, de-escalation and conflict avoidance aren't just for SD situations.

I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

If there was a "Parking Ban" in effect the loader operator would have been right with in the law .

I'm having a problem with anyone being "within the law" to smash up an expensive vehicle out of total stupidity, ignorance, and outright foolishness. I'm starting to wonder if some of Hitler's ideas weren't so bad??? If Germany had won the war these guys would have been used to fertilize evergreens. Can someone please explain how this would have been a bad thing? ::)   Bill T.

Bill, you're not naive, but this is the same city where it's well documented that people will step over a dead body rather than check to see if the HUMAN BEING is still breathing.  A city where people avoid a person beating the shit out of another in hopes that they don't have to get involved.  A city run, by and for, the largest population of sheep on the continent of North America.

Great food, fine entertainment and boatloads of humanity, rabidly waiting to eat their own young!

Easiest and most practical thing would have been for the payloader to use the SUV for traction and gone right over the top of it.  From the looks of it they needed to get the payloader out before they could have towed the SUV, and the time for all the calls could keep things bogged down forever.  I stay with using the winches.  It is amazing the control you have with an articulating boom and a winch.

This is the reason that one of the early questions when it comes to purchasing or renting a place to live is "Is there off street parking?"  I have no sympathy for someone that leaves their vehicle on the public street when the snow is being moved.  That reminds me, who said cleave it in half?  I like that one  ;D

That would be my verbiage..... ;D

Way back in the day, late sixties or early seventies, one of those big monster highway plows with the "V-shaped" plows split a car in half up near Cadillac, MI.  JumboFrank or Blackwolfe might remember.  Urban legend has it that there was someone sleeping in the back seat when it got cleaved!

I towed one back in '78 that got stuck in a two foot drift on a main highway.  Through the night the car, a full sized '75 Olds, was completely buried in the drifting snow.  About noon the next day a plow trying to bust through found the car and launched it about 25 feet out the other side of the drift.  They stories vary among the plow drivers that were there as to whether it burst into flames before it cleared the snow, in mid air, or when it landed on the clear road.  Bottom line is that when I got there it was a burned out hulk with lots of wire hanging on bare rims.  Nice thing about ice and packed snow is that I didn't worry about the rims.  I just drug it three miles to the shop on bare steel.

Under a city issued parking ban in any city, the owner of the SUV would have been at fault since his vehicle had no more right to be there than it would have to be on your lawn, (some one else's vehicle, not your own) Therefore, if it doesn't get towed before hand, the loader driver can do as he pleases to get access he needs to clear the road. If that involves trashing an SUV, tough sh!t.
In fact Bill, had Hitler won the war those people you ridicule would most likely be handing you a bar of "Soap" and telling you to enjoy your shower.

He could trash it, so he did. That almost sounds plausible. If contained an ounce of common sense.  Bill T.
