Judge tosses lawsuit by DEA agent who shot himself

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A judge has dismissed a lawsuit by a DEA agent who claimed the agency leaked a video that showed him accidentally shooting himself while demonstrating gun safety in Florida.

The 2004 video was shown on national television and used as fodder by late-night talk show hosts.

Senior U.S. District Judge Jack Shanstrom in Washington, D.C. ruled in favor of the Drug Enforcement Administration on Thursday, dismissing Lee Paige's claims of violation of privacy. The judge said Paige had provided no evidence showing who made the video public.

Paige was making a presentation to children in Orlando in April 2004 when he shot his own foot. Moments before the shooting, the agency veteran was displaying his firearm and telling students he was the only one in the room professional enough to handle a gun.

Sounds like this clown deserves all the bad attention that he gets. It is precisely that "holier than thou" attitude that caused this accident, and he has no one to blame but himself.

For those that have been living under a rock for the last few years:

Even though he was a nitwit, he did recover well and made the best of the situation.  Gotta give him props for that.

It was kind of funny that no one believed him when he brought out another gun and assured then that it, too, was unloaded.

I disagree Ichiban.

After admitting he made a mistake he should have excused himself from the teaching role.  Just like an AD at the range or in competition he should have taken the "walk of shame."  After leaving the room he should have written a report with another instructor present, and the instructors should have met as a group prior to another class with him present.

The class should have been recessed with one instructor addressing the class members  while the rest of the instructors investigated what happened.  They did not even stop the class to assess damages and injuries!  Nothing was being learned by the class while they were in shock over what happened, and while having other instructors walking around looking and talking on the cell phone.

He lost all credibility with the class, as evidenced by their reactions as he continued, and he was harming the credibility of the group.
If I appear taller than other men it is because I am standing on the shoulders of others.

This guy was handling a loaded gun in the presence of school children? I thinking the bullet should have entered him about three feet higher and would have possibly ended the gene pool.

I'm with M58 here, he should have excused himself, sought medical treatment, and turned the class over or maybe ended the class, the only defense I give him, is He did show his pistol to someone and asked " empty weapon? " and they both agreed, 2 parties at fault here. Having been a range officer for 25 yrs, cops scare me the most, ( some of you are great guys and gals, and I don't lump you in, so forgive me ), but I have had more guns pointed at me ( LOADED ) by Leo, than any other group, and feds have been the worst. The kids who ran when the rifle came out, those are the smart ones.  ;D

When I first saw his, I thought maybe thae parents of one of the kid's had sued for reckless endangerment (seems they would have a good case). ::) As far as "expectation of privacy"? He was a duty LEO doing a PR deal, during which he had a very dangerous ND. What expectation? ???  ::)

Here is an example of wasteful government spending, this buffoon (only gun expert in the room) is an unnecessary paycheck.

is it bad to still laugh every time I see that video   ;D
Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. The only thing you can’t do is ignore them
