When my son and I camped in Alberta some years ago, we had elk coming through the campground constantly. You learned if you did not know to stay away from them. I knew and stayed well out of their way. But, one time, even though I was off to the side and next to a tree, a bull came after me to protect his small herd (2 cows and their wee bairns). He must have known I was thinking of elk jerky . . . . .
