Thanks for the interview.  It was very helpful and made me drive to my gun dealer and put one on order!

Well, finally picked up my LCP. I've been out sick the last few days, went by the shop and there it was. Only one magazine though, and a strange little indented barrel, right off the muzzle, not familiar with that. Anyone care to enlighten me as to what the purpose of that indentation is?

Also, needs a screwdriver or other flat object to take it down, to remove the pin. Is that a copy from Kel-Tec or did Ruger think that one up by itself?   ;)

Feels better than the Kel-Tec, not as crudely cut on the handgrips, IMHO, handles very nicely.

Have not fired it yet, snow still melting, but I may get out this next weekend to give it a go.   ;D

I'll address this to Pathfinder because he says he picked up his LCP but anyone else can answer (sorry if it has been posted but I have been unable to do much at the computer for a while).  I know what the SRP is but what did you actually pay and is there much variation around the country?

I'm also going to add...how does it shoot compared to the kel-tec?

I paid $290 plus tax out the door, but that is from a small family run shop. Lots of competition in the area, three chains (Gander Mtn., Scheel's and Sportman's Warehouse) so I gotta figure they are somehow competitive. None of the others have the LCP tho.

The pistol comes with owner's manual, one mag, a ridiculously short cable lock with a huge Ruger lock on it, a nylon Ruger zip bag, and one spent casing from the test firing. Why no target I don't know, and what I am supposed to learn from the casing is another mystery. But it came in a little envelope with a label as to who shot it, date, etc.

Have not shot it yet, probably not until next weekend. I've been out as I said, and things here at home have piled up on me so I have to deal with those first. That and the girlfriend's cute little 20-month old granddaughter who is living with us wants lots of my time too. Can't resist the big baby blues on that little girl.

On the other hand, the range is sorta on the way home (i.e., it is not the opposite direction, and I could still get home if it were), so maybe after work one day this week . . .

I'll keep you posted.

Have not fired the Kel-tec, so it will be a review of the LCP only, not compared to others.

Looking forward to more range reports!

I also propose we broaden this LCP thread a little for posts about availability.  There are some indications that there may be a real shortage of these little critters compared to the (apparently ravenous) demand.

One major, well connected gun store where I live placed an order through a distributor for several dozen LCPs as soon as the pistol was announced.  This shop has seen no more than a handful (as in two or three!) actual pistols, which sold instantly, and it currently has an LCP waiting list with several dozen names on it.

Does this sound like what the rest of y'all are seeing?  Are people going to be waiting months for their pistols?  Years? (a la the Ruger P85)?

Also what does this massive, previously untapped demand for teeny CCW semi-autos tell us about the gun culture and the U.S. firearms industry?

Well... I don't know much...but this is what I know. ( No comments from the peanut gallery)

My youngest son Derek, who has D&M Gun Sales ( www.cascity.com/moreguns)
and he wanted at least 10, but they all told him  that the distributer's are alloted only so many and each salesman only gets 1..maybe 2.
After all orders are filled, then he will be able to order more at a time. I know that Ruger is making as many as they can as fast as they can. So until then we will have to be patient and wait I guess. ( Something that I'm not very good at)
