An elk hasn't been chased all over by dogs and had adrenalin pump through his body.
Do you think a sportical with a bayonet on it would work on pigs?
Figured on the AR. But seriously, a .270? 130 grains of JSP will take down an elk. I've killed plenty of deer and pigs with that gun and load, and rarely had to shoot twice. One in the boiler room and its game over. Hey, if it's good enogh for Jack O'Conner, it's good enough for me. Though I will admit that that the only reason its its not a 30-06 is that the gunpusher had the LH Ruger .270s in stock and would have to order the '06. He boresighted it for free for me and I said "sold". FQ13PS How much did you tip these guys? I don't often hire guides and I'm always a bit unsure about what a fair tip is.
FQ the ballistics say there isn't a lot of diff for 150 grain at 100 yards (270 = 2380 fps and 2668 me, 30-06 = 3400 fps and 2824 me) but I am just not SURE they will let you use it.
True, but they haven't been shot by the mighty Quaker, who has the reflexes of a jungle cat. One handed, over the shoulder, bank shot off the tree, through one ear and out the other at 300 yards. All the while fending off another with my trusty Sig Mosquito! FQ13, who probably should have waited for the '06 because 180 grains is bigger than 130 grains every single day. Still, you go with what you have. (Unless Haz wants to lend me that sweet .454 carbine........... ).
