Sadly I've sipped more of the original Kolaid this weekend.

Okay, so I'm actively searching all the on-line and real auction sites for S&W classic big bore revolvers.   Placef some "signal" bids down to let sellers know their reserve was too high.   And time runs out.   Lost my membership in the S&W gun-a-month-club.

In the meantime, GSSF announces a series of matches at my local indoor range/club.   Nothing fancy.  One course of fire...just drop by between 10-2pm on the day of the match and shoot.   Re-enter if want for a better score.  Prizes and giveaways.....a free gun at the end of the summer.   I'm good at these informal "pickup" style things.   Can't pass this up.....BUT WAIT....all I have is a Glock 23 in .40SW.....got to have something better than that to be competitive.   Maybe a G17....that's the ticket.

So sadly the April/May gun of the month is a G17.  Traded in the XD40 which, since it seems nobody will ever score production as major caliber is not needed.   Cost me $100 with trade.   I did get the Gen 4.   Bigger mag release which I can do with the side of my thumb without shifting grip.  AND the mag release is reversible!!   The stipling, finger groove, thumb rest are nice and the double recoil springs are suppose to be better.   The trigger has some rough edges and I may apply a little emery cloth to it.

First 20 shots below.   The first ten are spread out center and to the left.   Then I got serious and the second 10 are top center.  Only 7.5 yards so don't get excited.    The white outline rear sight and front dot or nice as long as the light is behind you.  Loose that rear lighting and they go black.   I've already ordered fiber optic sights, holster and mag holders.   It came with 3 mags and I've bought three more.

Okay, but now I've narrowed down my next S&W purchase.  Gonna get a 625 in .45ACP and try my hand at action revolver shooting.   I can't believe I'm moving that direction.  Was the last thing I thought I'd be doing 6 months ago.   Still though keeping my eye out for a 629 classic and a 625 classic in .45LC.

I believe, and this is just my opinion now, that by living so close to FQ, this post is prima facie evidence that FQ's whining and waffling are contagious.

Nice shootin', Tex! If that funny red circle were a couple inches higher, I dare say you would have obliterated it!!!!!  ;D

GSSF is a great resource. We had a GSSF event here in California last month. I didn't enter, but I took my oldest Glock to have her looked at by the armorers. It's a 23 that I got in '91 and it's had a lot of rounds put through it. This was one of the Glocks that had the early 6-part replacement and has been great. I had a chipped extractor (that still worked) and VERY worn locking block. I was willing to pay to have the parts changed out, but they replaced them for free. They also gave the gun a thorough once-over, replaced the NY-1 spring that I hated, replaced the recoil assembly and cleaned it inside and out. Super friendly guys too. Glock, everyone should have at least one.

7.5 yds isn't a great challenge, though I still manage to drop a few rounds.   The trigger is a little rough, texture-wise on my finger, as well as the action is a little rough.   I'll apply emery cloth to the external and I'll try for 1,000 cycles of the action, dry firing of course, this week and we'll see how it feels.

RE:  Fiber Optic sights and GSSF.

For those who have asked.  Yes FO sights are allowable per rule 40.30

Quote
40.30 Allowable Modifications to “Stock”
[snip]

5. Post and notch sights (“patridge” sights)
excluding any sight requiring slide
modifications. Please note that fiber-optic
and “express” sights are approved.
(emphasis mine)

And again in what's not allowed, rule 40.40

Quote
40.40 Specific Illegal Modifications in the
“Stock” Divisions:
1. Any non-post and notch sight. This includes
“Ghost Ring” or laser, electronic and
optical sights. Please note that fiber-optic
and express sights are permitted.

[snip]
(emphasis mine)

Interesting in what's not allow:

Quote
4. Aftermarket barrels

I was thinking of getting  Wolf barrel as a second barrel....a match barrel, but evidently not.  Also rules out shooting 9mm in a G23 with a conversion barrel.

I guess, I'll just be getting a spare Glock barrel.     I may get a wolf for practice and for IDPA/IPSC.

Since alf and I have done the March-April S&W pinups, it's time for some of you other members to pony up, get a camera, and post this months "S&W Revolver of the Month". Only one pinup allowed. If someone beats you to it, you have to wait for next month.

That's a great idea.   Don't post it on this thread, though.
