I'm with Peg here.
I thought of Ft Hood , among other"non terror related" acts of violence by US Muslims when I was posting, but I'm also aware of how willing the Marines are to "Good of the Service" discharges. Col "Red Mike" Edson nearly got one before WWII.
Because of the way he was pushing Mao's tactics of unconventional warfare it was thought he might have gone a little "pink". Even though his tactical theories were born out by his and Carlson's Raider Battalions, and the Recon Battalions that evolved from them the suspicion of him persisted. One Butler was enough.
What is more likely is that the cops stumbled into a "security exercise", where one man, or a group, often Recon guys , attempt to penetrate security . I was involved in one of these in Naples back in the 70's when Navy Seals attempted to penetrate the security of my ship.
Then of course with "unnamed sources", and half assed information, the local media tries to fill a slow news cycle.
