Why?

It was a feral dog that came charging out of the woods and spooked the horses while several of us were out riding rural dirt roads years ago. Every time I thought I had the horse calmed down it would act up again and the dog wouldn't let up. Long story short, I was flung sideways off the horse on the same side where the dog was and it was just a 'gut-reaction' to draw my side arm. I really didn't consciously realize I had already shot before/as I hit the ground, but that is what the others said I did. Anyway, I tucked and rolled and when I came up on one knee with the gun pointed at the dog, he was on his side doing an impersonation of Angus Young. So I finished him with another shot.
And for the record,
I make no claim what-so-ever that it was skill......it was purely luck.......(but I have made some lucky Bob Munden-style shots in my life).
*Note: We notified animal control and had the carcass picked up for rabies testing and the dog wasn't rabid.....maybe it was just my cologne.
