Columbia, S.C. (The Daily Mail) — Four members of a teenage gang have been charged under a state’s lynching law after allegedly beating an 18-year-old student so badly he required facial reconstruction surgery.

South Carolina prosecutors have charged the boys with second-degree assault and battery by mob, a crime which until last year was known as lynching.

The eight members of the gang, the youngest of whom is just 13, allegedly set upon Carter Strange in a parking lot as he jogged back  to his home in Columbia.

They allegedly turned themselves in after surveillance footage of the gang roaming the streets in the area was released on local television.

The savage attack left Carter so badly injured his mother, Vicki, almost didn’t recognise him when she saw him lying on his hospital bed.

She said: ‘I literally bent over him; I recognised his hand and his hair, and I said “that’s my son”.’

He was left with a broken nose and a broken eye socket, and doctors had to operate to remove a blood clot.

Mrs Strange arrived in court on Friday with her husband, John, to watch as the eldest of the gang, 19-year-old Thyeem Henrey, was charged with second-degree assault and battery by mob, common law robbery, and criminal conspiracy.

A 14-year-old, 15-year-old, and 16-year-old appeared in juvenile court to be charged with strong arm robbery, second-degree assault and battery by a mob, and criminal conspiracy.

A 13-year-old and three other 16-year-olds were charged with criminal conspiracy. They are all too young to be named.

The brutal beating happened last Sunday, when Carter, described as a ‘sweet and quiet’ boy, was jogging back home from a friend’s house.

Mrs Strange said she called him just after midnight, his curfew time.

She told Channel 10: ‘At 12:07 he wasn’t home, I called him and said “Carter where are you?”

‘He said “Momma, I’m almost home. I’ll be there in just a minute.” At 12:15 I called, but the phone was dead.’

The gang had allegedly been roaming around the area for most of the evening, and police said they had already tried – and failed – to rob four other people.

When they saw Carter, they allegedly ran towards him, savagely assaulted him and stole his cell phone.

Police Chief Randy Scott said: ‘This teenager was minding his own business, trying to make his curfew when he was brutally attacked and robbed.’

Henrey broke down in court as Carter’s parents vented their anger.

Mrs Strange said: ‘Since Carter didn’t fight against them eight Sunday, I’m going to fight for him now. I’m going to fight for him until my last breath.’

Her husband said: ‘I pray that you get your life right. Find God. If you pray for forgiveness, he will forgive you. I don’t have that in my heart right now. Maybe one day, but not today.’

Mrs Strange told Channel 10: ‘We got lucky he didn’t die. Next person won’t be lucky. If they did this now, what’s to stop them from doing it again?’

Henrey remains in custody. His bond was set at $750,000.

This eye-witness account is from Paul Wilkinson, president of the Altamont Park Neighborhood Association:

    Tonight, around 11 p.m., a group of at least 60-70 African American youth marched down one of the side streets (W. Thrush) to the 4 lane main drag (Sheridan). They were yelling threats to white residents. Things such as we need to kill alll the white people around here. They were physically intimidating anyone calling for help from the police. They were surrounding cars. Cars on the main drag had to slam on their brakes to either avoid the youth blocking not only all four lanes, but a large section of the side street as well. fights were breaking out among them. They were rushing residents who looked out their doors, going on to porches, yelling threats to people calling the police for help.

    Cars were doing U turns on the streets just to avoid the mob, mostly male. One youth stated his grandfather was white and several assaulted him on the spot. One police officer answered the call. The youth split into two large groups, one heading north, the other south. They were also yelling racial threats to the police officer but he was outnumbered. Another police car did not show up until after the youth finally dispersed and the patty wagon (van) also eventually showed up.

    Residents are very shaken, both black and white alike. This is the fifth large mob action in about a month with smaller groups of 10-12 are out threatening children and adults a few evenings a week or later into the night. The times vary, even occuring during the day. In talking to the police officer, they are short staffed. Residents were advised to simply keep inside and to lock their doors. In other words buckle down, it’s not even safe to sit on your porch or go into your yards.

“The fifth large mob action in about a month.” Wow. This is really outrageous. Why is this neighborhood having to put up with this? “Residents were advised to simply keep inside and to lock their doors”? Seriously? That’s the best we can do for our fellow citizens’ safety?

This needs to be addressed, and quickly.

Really sucks for that kid in South Carolina.

In Haz's article it mentioned 60-70 males. That is two thirty round mags. Just kidding. I would imagine most LEO's carry AR-15's? I do not understand why further action was not taken?

I would like to mention that I am not a racist, but have run into many younger black kids that absolutely hate white people. What the hell is stirring all this hatred? Who is teaching this to them? They did not experience what happened in the 50's, 60's and 70's. This racial crap should be ancient history. Just my two bits.

Now, with a black President? WTF? Tell me how oppressed you are. The fact is though that the hardest thing to change is a trope. That is a narrative structure where all you need to do is fill in the blanks. We still haven't understood that the old narrative of racial violence in the South is white on black no longer applies. So when facts that don't fit the trope come up, they tend to be ignored. Those who argure against this are met with hosility, as changing the narrative makes folks uncomfortable. So silence prevails until the weight of facts overwhelms the old narrative. Its what happened to the old racist narrative. Its what happened to the anti-women's rights narrative, and its what is happening now to the PC "blacks can't be racists" narrative. The fact that these little thugs are charged under an anti-lynching statute is poetic justice, but listen to their lawyer rail against that and talk about Jim Crow in court.

AUGUST 24--Police are investigating whether a series of assaults at the Iowa State Fair were racially motivated since the attackers reportedly announced it was “Beat Whitey Night” during one attack.

According to a Des Moines Police Department report, a group of young black assailants pummeled a white fairgoer Friday night, an assault that cops believe may have racial overtones due to what was said by the attackers.

A report by Sgt. David Murillo noted that, “officers at the fairgrounds advise there was a group of 30-40 individuals roaming the fairgrounds openly calling it ‘Beat Whitey Night.’” The victim, 36-year-old Jammie Carroll, suffered “severe injuries to his eyes, cheekbones, and nose,” and was hospitalized at Mercy Medical Center with multiple facial contusions.

Cops are examining other reported incidents at the fairgrounds since groups of black juveniles appeared to be singling out white victims. During one of these confrontations Sunday evening, two police officers were injured trying to break up a brawl (which resulted in five arrests).

A second police report notes that the Sunday incident again involved “a large fight with black male and female juveniles assaulting white citizens."

That might be part of the problem.   We saw how many blacks were expecting great changes in their lives, including free rent and gas, and that some even thought that a black being elected president indicated that blacks were now the majority in this country. (to me that was the most discouraging aspect of BHO's being elected, other than his political philosophy, indicating a truly racist view of things)  

So what do you do when things haven't gotten better and "The Promised Land" seems farther away as things have gotten worse.  Two choices...  

One is to figure out that YOU have to do something to make things better for yourself and do it

Two is to get mad as hell, knowing that even with "all the cards in your hand" things are just as bad and getting worse and you ain't every gonna get it all for free.
