A Texas judge stated as Hurricane Rita approached land that any citizen in the state could defend not only his home but his entire neighborhood against looters with deadly force. There were no cases of looting after that statement. A nation wide re-stating of this understanding of SELF DEFENSE would change the attitudes of thugs everywhere.

That is shallow thinking that ignores the fact we have a Govt of the thugs , by the thugs and for the thugs.
Do I need to remind you of the tax cheat running the Treasury, or the Attorney Gen who refused to prosecute the Philly Black Panthers for voter intimidation because it would make" his people" look bad ?

Your assuming DC would be willing to give up ANY control over their flock!  Nobody likes to micro-manage like a politician.  Helps them keep their hands in your pockets!

You see only one tree of the forest, this is one local symptom of a national problem.
Just in this thread we have covered the title incident in SC, the mob incident in Ill, the Black Panthers in Pa, and another mob incident in Ia. There have been many other cases of blacks targeting whites nationwide.
I was never a prejudiced person until I started paying attention to the news I was hearing. Here in NH, one of the 3 "whitest" states in the Union, more than half of all serious crimes are committed by blacks, and more than 2/3 of all major drug suspects are either black or hispanic. In a state that has an Ethnic population of 3% that makes one think the segregationists may have had a point.

You know whats weird is that just in the last year I've seen a TON of Russians moving into the Myrtle Beach area...    Their all nice, well behaved people.  Pleasant to talk to (the ones that speak English!).  But there sure seems to be a LOT moving in!  

I personally know 5 now by name (all in different circles).  If you'd asked me two years ago how many Russians I knew I'd have asked you where the #$@ you thought you were!

about half French Canadians here. Actually where I live now was considered French/Indian territory before before Wolfe drove them out of Canada. The Northern most English settlement was at Rumsford, (now Concord ).
BM, We even have Russians moving in to this area, it's a good thing though.
If you have to have foreigners coming in it's better to have the Russians. There have been news stories in the national media about how they hate the Dem party. They lived under communism, they know where the liberals are trying to go and they will not return to standing in line for toilet paper.

Tom, I think your type of thinking parallels many Americans, I among them. I personally believe Hussein has single handedly done more to damage race relations in this country than anyone since O.J. Simpson. Whites initially supported these people in droves, then when their true being surfaced, they realized they've been had. I think people, (whites), are finally coming around to the fact it isn't so bad to be critical of minorities. God knows they are deserving of the criticism.

Here in the Phoenix area it's become a total joke with the hispanics. If these people even think they have a voice they'll complain like there is no tomorrow. Their attitude is unbelievable. Some of it does make the national news, especially since S.B. 1070, along with Hussein's "suit" hit the news. The hispanics here are all over it like stink on $h!t. This will get bloody in time. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't already. Whites in this town are getting very pissed! Many are acting like a pressure cooker with the vent welded shut.

Melanie and I never leave the house without being armed. One day this whole damn city is going to blow. All it's going to take is the loss of their handouts. They'll think, and act, as if it's discriminatory, and not because of the fact the state is broke. They take everything that goes against their wants as racial. Just this past weekend we had a hispanic guy at work throw coffee on a white guy and punch him. He was finally fired after a history of this sort of thing. Now, his brother is crying foul. It won't be long before something happens with him. If either were white, they would have been gone long ago. Multiculturalism has never worked in any country it has ever been applied. I wish to hell they would stop trying to make it work here. It never has, and it never will. Again the definition of insanity keeps coming up.  Bill T.

Yeah...like the Polish uprisings in Chicago of years ago when Chicago had a population of Polish descent greater than Warsaw, Poland.

They spoke Polish, honored Polish customs, ate traditional Polish food, lived in Polish neighborhoods, even had streets with Polish names, and look where that led.

Not to riots like I suggested, but to a group of hard working Americans who made their way in their new country.  

They worked hard because that was the only way to make it.  No handouts from the government available.  Any help came from local sources and was only accepted by those really in need.  And they all learned to speak English too.

My opinions here apply mostly to black/white relations, since the problem blacks are citizens where as the majority of problem hispanics are not and illegal immigration is a subject for another thread.

A couple thoughts that have occurred to me in recent years beyond the wildly disproportionate rate of crime among blacks locally.
1- The so called "racists" of the segregationist movement, that opposed the civil rights movement were primarily Southerners who lived in areas with fairly large black populations. They were familiar with blacks, they had daily contact with them, and awareness of how they conducted themselves in their own community. On the other hand, the pro civil rights whites were generally left leaning/socialist Northern college students who's only experience with blacks was watching "Amos and Andy" or "I Spy".
2- The opponents of Civil rights made certain predictions, such as Margret Sanger's ( founder of the eugenics program known as "Planned Parenthood" ) prediction that they would "out breed the more productive white race". many of these predictions have in fact been proven correct. As an example I will cite Whitey Bulger's home town of South Boston.
In 1971 Southie was all white and pretty much all Irish, the crime rate was so low people did not need to lock their doors, streets were safe, and homes and businesses were well maintained.  In 1972 the Ma. legislature, dominated by outsiders who did not have to live there, mandated a busing program to "integrate" Boston's schools by busing black students into Southie. Opponents said that crime and violence would sky rocket to the levels of black neighborhoods like Roxbury, property values and "quality of life" would plummet, and Southie would lose it's distinct character as  "a good place to live".  The resistance was strongly supported by then Senate President Billy Bulger, and future Boston mayor Ray Flynn, both of whom were born , raised, and still lived in Southie. 40 years later, Southie is just as they predicted, a blighted, crime infested 3rd world sh!t hole.
In city after city across America opponents of Racial integration, accurately predicted "White flight, , decreasing property values and tax revenue,  coupled with increased taxes ,crime, poverty, and demand for social services.

These are not opinions, these are documented historical trends that follow the scientific principle of repeated results of the same as actions.
It makes one stop and think that perhaps the principle of "separate but equal" had some merit.

This is an issue that bothers me because I believe firmly in individualism and a meritocracy. Race, religion, sexual orientation and gender should be irrelevant. . However, as BillT and Tom point out, there is an issue here. When gays start moving into a neighborhood, you should buy property as it will be gentrified and property values will go up. On the other hand, when blacks start moving in, its time to sell as property values will go down and crime will go up, and that's just a fact. Its hard to argue with reality.
