(Here's) my AR, take it please

SEATTLE (AP) — A Seattle police spokesman says the department is embarrassed after officers left a police rifle unattended on a patrol car outside a busy downtown area. Spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb says the department has launched an investigation.

Whitcomb says two people spotted the rifle on the parked car. One flagged down bicycle officers to alert them. The other followed the cruiser as it drove through downtown Seattle and tracked down the driver after the car parked.

The alternative weekly The Stranger first reported the incident, posting a picture that shows the rifle sitting on top of the trunk.

Whitcomb says such rifles are assigned only to officers who have additional training. They're usually kept in the trunk or between the driver and passenger seats

With the patrol car's license number and unit number both clearly visible in the pic, this SHOULD be the shortest investigation in the history of law enforcement.  Unless, of course, what they're investigating is how to cover their a$$es.

While I will admit to laying my keys, watch, cell phone or glasses somewhere and forgetting to pick them up, I have never mislaid an AR.

Now where the heck did I park my tank?
"I expect perdition, I always have. I keep this building at my back, and several guns handy, in case perdition arrives in a form that's susceptible to bullets. I expect it will come in the disease form, though. I'm susceptible to diseases, and you can't shoot a damned disease." ~ Judge Roy Bean, Streets of Laredo

Come on guys, they had extra training to know how to keep the rifle on the trunk while they drove around the city.

you know what, thats grounds for firing right there on the spot.

I had a cousin that was a "g man"  The one thing he always talked about his job was:

"If I lost my gun, I lost my job."

Why or when that changed I don't know, but its a damn good policy.
I always break all the clay pigeons,  some times its even with lead.

The " finders keepers" rule applies here.  ;)
""It may be laid down as a primary position, and the basis of our system, that every Citizen who enjoys the protection of a free Government, owes not only a proportion of his property, but even his personal services to the defence of it, and consequently that the Citizens of America (with a few legal and official exceptions) from 18 to 50 Years of Age should be borne on the Militia Rolls, provided with uniform Arms, and so far accustomed to the use of them, that the Total strength of the Country might be called forth at a Short Notice on any very interesting Emergency." - George Washington. The officer made a serious mistake. They said on CNN that the squad car went to a local Starbucks. I am sure this officer is going to get suspended, but he should not lose his job. People make mistakes. I am sure he feels like a dumbass cause it is all over the news.
