Looking for a good airgun forum
« on: July 06, 2011, 07:09:59 AM »
I am getting a bit more serious about airguns. First of all, I think they are just mechanically cool and well built machines. I also like the fact that they are quiet and capable of taking game while living in a legal grey zone. Plus, they are beyond cheap to shoot and that is an issue for me. I can shoot my RWS 34 all day for less than half of one box of ammo for my .270, and the weight and feel are pretty much identical (recoil and noise excepted). So, does anyone on this board (paging Alf or Badger) know of a good airgun board? I'd like to get some informed input on technical questions.

I'd also like to recommend taking airguns more seriously to other board members. Honestly, my .22 air rifle is indistinguishable from a firearm, it wears a quality scope, will drive tacks at 50 yards, and will kill small game. Yet it costs less than one penny to shoot. I think that those of us that like to punch paper  might profit from buying a nice quiet .22 pellet rifle and doing it in the back yard, as it will save a hell of a lot of money in terms of keeping in practice. Plus, they are fun little small game guns. Just curious as to others opinions.

Some of the dealers have forums like:

Straight Shooter   http://straightshooters.com/

Probably the largest and they bill themselves as #1 is

The Yellow Forum http://www.network54.com/Forum/79537/

My favorite "international" forum which covers airguns to elephant hunting (for serious hunting) is Accurate Reloading   http://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/6511043   You have to keep in mind that this forum is truly international and posts will reflect gear, laws and experience from all over the world.

Then there's
Airgun Advice http://airgunadvice.com/
Airgun Areana  http://www.airgunarena.com/
Crosman Forum  (the green one) http://www.network54.com/Forum/275684/

When you've read all those posts there are a few more out there, but that should keep you busy for awhile.

Not familiar with boards on this topic, but check out this week's "Ted Nugent's Spirit Of The Wild" on Outdoor Channel.  Uncle Ted's favorite gun this week is a kick-a$$ air-gun!!

Most of the European forums I found are waaaayyy to hard core for my wallet.  Some of those guys are toting around $5,000 full custom build stuff.  And talk about ft. lbs of energy numbers that make a 30/30 blush.   :o  Computerized triggers, pellets the size of a loaded 9mm round.  HARD CORE!

The "network54" forum alf mentions seemed to have a weird format to me, but has some very intelligent input on it.

Then theres the "GTA" forum.   ::)  On which I've attempted to poke the ribs of their "founder" for ripping people off with the BS triggers he sells.  Long story, but the guy should be selling Shamwow's and juice machines on tv.  The members of that forum will warn that either you go along with the smoke and mirrors, or he'll just boot you off.  So LOTS of goofy claims and false information on there.  The format looks pretty though!  My advice would be to consider everything you read there as if it were coming from the mouth of a 3 year old.   :-\

I'm with you on wanting more airgun info. though.  500 rounds of "premium" ammo for less than $10...  Practice all day in your back yard without the neighbors even knowing (No range fee's!).  And except for sound you can't tell the differance between shooting my pellet rifle and anything else.  Weighing 7.4 lbs, I'd put it's recoil at about the same as a .223.  And trigger quality is comparable to any centerfire.  What more could you ask for when looking to hone your shooting skills and have a little fun?

When I was riding, I take my bike in for it's scheduled maintenance at 1000 miles.  While I'm there, I'm waiting outside, having a smoke and talking to this dude with all kinds of ink, one of those Nazi brain bucket helmets, leather jacket, stickers all over his helmet, a real "hard rider" I think.  Nice enough guy....

Some time goes by and the garage door opens and they wheel out this bright yellow scooter from the bay and this "hard core" biker hops on and rides off into the sunset....

Reminds me of "Airsoft" poster children.....

Allright wise guys, here's the challenge. We face off at twenty yards. You bring your AR/AK or whatever. I bring my RWS in .22. I get to shoot first, winner gets the loser's gun. Any takers? ;D
