The $65 billion (£33 billion) mega-project aims to transform trade links between Russia and its former Cold War enemies across some of the world’s most desolate terrain. It would create a high-speed railway line, energy links and a fibreoptic cable network.

I only see one problem with this. And anyone who has been to Alaska will back me up on this. You may be able to build a tunnel TO Alaska, but you are going to have to figure out how to get THROUGH Alaska. The reason that the cities and towns are build along the coast is because that is the only hospitable terrain in the state. Once you get 20-30 miles from the coast Alaska pretty much goes straight up for 15-20000 feet. This is why bush planes are still so vital to the state. They may be better off to just tunnel straight through till they get to the eastern side of the Rockies.

Lets ignore the frequent earth quakes for now.
Based on Russia's proven track record of energy blackmail this is exactly the sort of dumb ass idea the Dems will love.
Don't drill our own oil, let Russia have us by the energy nuts just like they do Europe.
Going along with would be treason.
