And I did it!
First took the Bushmaster AK Shorty. Made sure the rifle was clear, then attempted to insert 30 Brownells magazine with 28 rounds of ammo backwards. No Luck
Took an empty Bushmaster 20 round magazine and tried again. It looked like it might go, gave the base a tap to seat it and Shazam it stuck!
Went back to the 30 round magazine, lined it up and tapped the magazine and it stayed in the magwell.
Now I knew as I was doing it it felt completely wrong going in. And if I pulled down on it to make sure it was seated it popped loose. Repeated the same stupid move and the magazine stayed in the magwell. Pulled the charging handle back and let it go. No problem because the backasswards magazine was not fully engaged and the bolt slamed home. Any kind of chamber check would have showed any empty chamber.
Took out the S&W 15 and had the same results.
I would be in a coma and known the mag was in incorrectly but under stress and poorly trained it could be done. I have seen folks try and jam a Glock magazine in backwards multiple times at an IDPA match before the light went on.
The opinion at work is with Don that the picture just has to be a set up. I hope so.
